I have a 71 with pearl white interior. I have what I believe to be the original coat hooks, but, I have read there was a design change for 71-72 models. My car is an 02C and I have white coat hooks with the small stair steps. Who else has a similar build date with original pearl white interior that can tell me if they also have the stair step coat hooks? When did the actual transition of the PEARL WHITE, textured, no steps, coat hook take place? If you have a 71, please provide: Build Date-------------Coat hook Color-----------------Stair Step (Yes or No) 02C, Pearl White, Yes Troy
Troy, They would have been part of the Fisher Body assembled parts, and I know of no information sources from Fisher Body about anything. They only way to find this info would be to do just like you are asking, by looking at the cars. However, I would not keep it to the Pearl White interiors, but would rather ask for any interior from that time period. Just a thought. Duane
I was concerned if I included all colors in my question I would be up against quantity on hand of stair step design of each color. We may find a more popular color will switch the design, prior to other less used color. I'd guess the existing stair step supply would be used up prior to a cut over to the new design. I'm also guessing black (more popular colors) may run out of supply before pearl white, green. Troy
I understand. Maybe if the posters included the color they have we could track this. Here is another item, they also changed the stainless steel hangers for the shoulder harnesses. The 70 sytle is flat. In 71 they changed the hanger to have a slight "step" in it, so it was easier to slide the belts against the headliner. Which type do you have? Duane
Cool, Troy, did you ask me once about one of the mounting tabs that hold the top & bottom parts of the 4-speed consolettes together? I can't remember who asked me. Duane
Here's .02 worth if we're talking 70-72. The smooth style for '70 The "ribbed" style was called the "2nd type or design" for '71 and also used in '72. The ribbed style appears to be discontinued and changed to the smooth style Sept. 1972. The smooth style was used from 1960 - late '70s and came of course black with the note "paint to match". I'm not sure if color has anything to do with it as much as time built and assembly plant.
