Anyone have any suggestions on shipping? Asked my local UPS store and they wanted over $100 bucks to ship it. I want it to get to it's destination without it being destroyed.
The only way to guarantee that it won't be destroyed is to drive it yourself. None of the shippers actually care about what they do while shipping, but if you buy insurance, after a hassle, they will usually pay if they damage or lose the package.
Yea, I agree make some arrangements to drive it. I just drove a 6 hour round trip for nine but was worth it, just can’t find them anymore. If you had to ship Id think a 6’ pvc pipe might be the best option but again very pricy to ship.
the only way to guarantee you'll get paid if it gets damaged in shipping is to take it to the pack and ship UPS store and have them pack it and ship it. If it gets lost or arrives damaged they can't deny the claim. I've been through this nightmare and that's the only way I would ever ship a dash pad again
One of the hardest things to ship. I will only send a dashpad in a wooden crate,,,,and the buyer pays for it....but they get a pad that arrives with no damage..... Peace WildBill
I had my dash pad shipped from B.C. to Ontario with no problems. The seller wrapped it in multiple layers of cardboard then put it in a home made long cardboard box.
It's really sad when a rare, perfect part gets damaged in shipping. It doesn't matter who damaged it, or if the person who was supposed to get it, gets his money back. I've received several things damaged over the years that were drop dead, mint, rare parts that I had searched years to find. It's very depressing!
I purchase an NOS console and when I received it look like a 300 pound stomped the box. It was boxed well with plenty of packing material and the bod was rated at high enough crush rate. They did pay but it took awhile, very sad...
Once I made a wooden crate to ship a 66 GS Turquoise Dash pad. I think that is the rarest interior color and it was perfect. UPS still managed to destroy both it and the crate. You could see the scuff marks where the fork lift tires hit it. This was also the only item I ever had damaged by UPS in all my years of shipping parts. Our "group" is right now working on getting a 69 Non-AC dash pad to Terry for his build. It is going to be hand delivered one way or the other. Duane
Sounds about right. Only other options are freight or Fastenal, but something that dimensional size is going to be expensive no matter what.
Duane, I thought Tim talked to you or was supposed to let you know. Already met with Tim and his parents in Harrisburg on I believe the 11th. He drove down about an hour and I made the 6 hour round trip. It’s painted and installed already. Tim was great to meet but could not talk long his mom was roasting in the car, his dad was funny with some good stories wish we could have talked longer. Thanks for the help, will be posting some pics soon. Sorry for jumping in on your post Fred.
