What are the differences in the dash pads for Skylark and GS from 1970 to 1972 ?
    Pictures would sure help.

    Thanks , Loren

No difference other than some of the '72's had the "Fasten Seat Belts" light on top. There is a difference in the AC and non-AC pads for 70-72. The non-AC pads do not have a center vent.

Ok, I have an AC pad and a non-AC pad. I've been lead to understand that there was also one that did not have a vent spot at all. Is that correct ?
The reason I ask is that the place that re-manufactured the '65 Skylark dash pads for me has asked me to look into the '70- '72 dash pad.

You’re right. There was also a 70-72 dash pad without any vents but I don’t know what the application was for. Someone else will chime in.

Guys there is a difference. 70 was a one year only. The far left on a 70 had a round peg that snaps into a dash clip that is the same as the center peg. In 71-72 they eliminated the far left round peg and replaced it with a sharp blade like spear. They also eliminated the far left clip only. The far left blade would fit snuggly up against the empty hole top. They are interchangeable. If you use a 70 round peg type you use the snap in brown clip in far left hole. If you use the far left blade type you don’t use the clip in the far left hole. Every dash I have ever seen also had a hand written white crayon date code on back. This is how you tell what month and day it came from. Example 2-24 Does this all make sense?

There are three basic type dashes besides the blade/peg differences. The AC dash with the vent in middle and right. The high end GS/custom Non AC dash with one far right vent. This dash was used with the two knob kick panels. Then there was the no vent dash that was used in your low end base 4 doors. The no vent type was used with one knob kick panels. The no vent type are worth the least. No one wants them. The one right vent type is the rarest and most expensive. The AC type two vent is by far the most common.

I have taken out a ton of them and this is the pattern i see. Someone told me they have seen 70 type in very early 71’s. I never saw this however.

My memory failed me on the date codes though. They are white crayon and have month and day. This one is February 24 no year given. It’s peg style so has to be 71 or 72.

At this time they are not reproducing them. They have had some inquiries , so they asked if I would see what kind of interest there is.
Even though I have a '70 GS 455 car, I have very little knowledge of '70 - '72 Gran Sport or Skylark. So I need to rely on others help here for information about the dash pads.

When I did the '65 dash pads with them, it took a minimum of ten people to commit to get the project started , [ we had 16 commit] . It wasn't cheap to do that project. The '65 pads now sell for $100 less then we each paid to get the project done. It also took almost sixteen months from start to finish before the first one was delivered. The quality , vinyl grain and fit of the '65 pads are spot on.

    copperheadgs1,

Thank you for all your information. I have no idea if anything will come of this. At this point it is just foot work .

    Again, thank you.

To get a project like this off the ground, it takes financial commitment from people interested in getting a new dash pad.
As I posted earlier, there is a substantial cost upfront and a long development time. In short, I think it would take at least two dozen persons to commit to a project like this to see it go forward.

Time will tell if there is enough interest,

I believe there would be lots of interest .....but based on price though

Cost would depend upon the number of pads of each style that can be pre- sold. Guessing at this time somewhere in the $500 - $550 area.

When we did the '65 Skylark/ Gran Sport dash pad. the cost for the initial 16 people, was $525 plus a core and shipping. Current price is $425 plus core and shipping.
These are not a RE-COVER like some other places do. The pad is remanufactured like the originals . The dash pad is stripped down to the original base . All the old vinyl and old foam is removed, then the original base is placed into the mold with a new formed vinyl and new foam is injected. When it has cured, it is removed from the mold and edges are wrapped .

hard to find a super nice one .....so still doable especially if quality pieces
and that just dashes is upward of $900

Imo lots of people would get on list ....16 ? .....more like 160 :)

I don't have the experience with the '70-'72 folks , so will just have to see where it will go.
If there is someone that wants to head a project for this, I can put you in contact with the company Iused.
The key is having commitment and the money upfront from people . Oh …, patience too. lol Doing the '65 dash pad was a test of patience.
