    Hello,
    I noticed this today. This is a 1965 BOP 8.2 10 bolt.
This is on the casting of the body of the gear housing, not on the ear of the upper control arm bushing.
No fluid leaking. Does this core need to be replaced?

    Thanks,
    Robert

That is a rather odd spot to crack. It could be a very old crack from a casting flaw,or where they broke it from the mold, which is right where this crack is. Is there any fluid seeping from
    it?

No fluid leaking, its very dry and pretty clean! In the photo I have a gapping gauge slipped into the crack. I was probing the area of the crack.

Just curious if it has been like that since day one when they knocked it out of the mold.

I wouldn't think twice about it. It isn't a stress crack. Brian is right. I bet it would disappear with a cookie on a die grinder quick.

All the 8.2 Buick 66, 67 are cast cracked there. I just did one for a gentleman the other day. I have had many over the years. Just a bad casting job may have cooled to fast or was the open pour in area of the casting??? Jim

Thanks to all for replying to my thread. I've been working under the Buick and noticed this for the first time the other day.
The rear differential has been trouble free with no leaks or noises. I was afraid it was a stress failure and needed to be replaced.

    Thanks for the expert opinions.

    Regards,
    Robert
