Yes, this question has probably been asked and answered 30 times, but here goes. What is that correct shade of "red"? I've seen some that are more red than orange, and more orange than red, I do know that straight up red or orange isn't right. Any help is appreciated.
This probably wont help yah, but from what I remember visually, the original Buick red is more of a dried blood red, its almost a dirty maroon red. Its not orange red, tomatoe red, bright red or blue red. This is what I remember from seeing original early '70's Buick V8's
Yeah, it is a weird color. I think this may just be a matter of buying paint and trying to figure out what matches best.
15 years after the engine was painted the "correct" red, this time around, I used dupli-color universal red (DE1653) as suggested by J.W. I like it.
This is what I used to spray my pulleys to match my 1970 Skylark's engine: http://www.hirschauto.com/ENGINE-ENAMEL/productinfo/EE-QUART/BUI RED LT/ It's a bit pricey but great stuff. Sprayed mine with an HVLP gun with a 1.8mm nozzle if I remember correctly. You need a pretty big nozzle because it's thick stuff or you can brush it on. And yes as said above it is more of a deep, blood red. Of course they're all chipped up now from being run
This is the one I use: http://m.oreillyauto.com/h5/r/www.o....oap?ck=Search_N0487_-1_-1&pt=N0487&ppt=C0171
