If its running the stock coil and points...... wow....no! I think it's .035 if you to run the HEI dist. then I would run .045
No, it's actually .030.. With AC R45T Plugs.. I run Pertronix setup and run AC R43T Plugs with a slightly larger gap of .035... I could run more I'm sure.. You'll always know if somethings amis with a points distrib if you start loosing more then you should in the mid and top end. heh Cheers!
I believe it is .030 for points. Question: I was told by someone when I converted to HEI that I can go as much as .060 with it; is this true? (Its at .045 now).
my personal reseach found - 35 for stock points, 45 for HEI, and 60 for MSD... but really whatever works best for you car...
Wow, and I thought I was confused before!!!! Do I here .040 anyone??? j/k Its a stock system with points... for the hell of it, I checked with a local autoparts store, the suggested .040.... which is exactly why I asked on the BB instead... Thanks for the help, I'll get that changed tonite.
Wider is Better (to a point)! But, ONLY if you've got the ignition to fire it! Start small and test a little bigger - see what makes it start to drop off. Scott
40 is a little wide..... I have checked a few sources... most say .030 .... http://www.buicks.net/shop/tuneup.html I have always gapped mine at .035 though ......for the last 23 years.
Ok, well I found the original sticker that was supposed to be under the hood (in the trunk... I guess the guy wanted to keep it) and it said .040 for the gap for the 72 lark. hmm, if I went ahead and set it to .040 how would I tell if the gap was too much? Thanks,
I checked my copy of Guide to Buick Gran Sports by Steven Dove and on the chart of general tune up specs it lists .030 for all 350's '68 to '71. Beginning in '72 the gap listed is .040. Since my '71 sticker says .030 and your '72 sticker says .040, I'd say the chart is accurate. Hope this helps clear the confusion.
