    John,

Thanks for the insight. I was looking at getting either Crane, Mr. Gasket, or Summit curve kit.

Totally understand now. I am going to order the curve kit that comes with the weights and springs so I have some options.

    Gotcha!

I will be sure to study the Power timing thread to see if I can find any info regarding the weight and center piece parameters.

That I am sir. I used to do this stuff like 20+ years ago but then got into computer controlled vehicles and forgot everything I knew. I do appreciate all the help! :)

    Josh!

    Long time no talk. :)

Definitely need to get this car dialed in. I appreciate all your assistance as well sir. I am hoping that with all the stuff I am checking out, the new carb, and the power timing, that this car will be running very soon!

    Esasky's85GN Car Poor!

Update on 72 gents. Got the car all put back together and fired it up. Running better but heard a strange sound as if a header was leaking.

Apparently the factory hot air ports on my 71 heads are leaking. I didn't bother to put silicone around those ports and of course, the Edelbrock intake doesn't have the hot air choke provisions.

I am beginning to think I have to worst luck with this car.

I am about ready to just use a Felpro steel gasket with silicone and call it a day.

Of course, finding this issue, I didn't hook up my timing light to start messing with the timing.

To be continued once I get more time to invest into it.

Is the intake a B4B or a Performer? The B4B is incompatible with later style EGR heads

It's the performer. Heads are 71 heads. They blocked off the air ports on the heads but then drilled small holes in each plug. Not real sure why...

Are you talking about the exhaust crossover ports in the center of each head? Those are there on every head. It heats the bottom of the intake to help with fuel vaporization in cold weather and to heat the choke thermostatic spring. Some block it off to keep the intake cooler for performance, but drill holes in the cup plugs to keep some heat for the choke. If you have the performer aluminum intake, the crossover ports should be blocked off completely, no holes. Aluminum intakes heat up faster than a cast iron intake, they do better with no exhaust crossover heat.

    Larry,

It does in fact have a performer intake on it. Not sure why they weren't completely blocked off. Lesson learned.

You happen to know what size those holes are so I can get freeze plugs ordered?

Not sure, pull one out and match it up.

    Thanks guys!

Ok guys. Got intake off. Hot air ports on heads aren't 3/4". I need to find a 23/32" expansion plug for those holes. Does anyone know where to find plugs like that?

    ttt
This fell thru the cracks w no results and op now has a timing light,so he wrote.
Tho he could have just advanced timing by ear to see if car picked up which would've cost nothing but 5 minutes work wayyyy back
You can call me names again
    It's ok.
So what's up w the car

Motor is out of car. More issues with the motor that can't be fixed with "just advance the timing by ear" fix.

Deeper issues with motor. I'll leave it at that.

    There's your update.

Whatta ya mean you're not gonna tell us.
You spent all this money on a carb n intake
And you had a timing light the whole time but refused to check it
You are entertaining to say the least
    So whudja break?

I have no problem telling people what I found that actually matter and are not your stereotypical keyboard warrior who talk $hit. Didn't buy an intake; it was on the car. Bought a 4GC because I wanted a stock carb. Get your story straight.

Timing was right on; yeah, I even checked it myself! Wow!!! Go me!!!

You know what's funny to me. You talk all this smack but your signature states that someone else built your motor. Enough said.

For someone who doesn't care, you sure do have an interest in what's going on.

Find a hobby that actually adds value rather than trolling on a forum and down talking people who come on here for valued opinions.

I'm sure you will have some other smart ass comment to make; that's the only consistent information you have provided.

    So this is game over?
You are taking your ball and going home.

You posted a question and I was one of many who answered
You did not answer it honestly as I see now

    That's all
    Have fun w the repair
    Make it better

I was never playing a game but ok, I guess the "game" is over.

    I guess I am. ;-)

You answered but then it turned into a sarcasm. I was just asking for opinions since this was my 1st BBB.

I am not sure what I didn't answer honestly but if you said I didn't, then it must be 100% true.

I will make it better. And I will keep you specifically updated if that's what you are looking for.

If you are truly interested in what I found, I found the following:

    - CC on head for #6 cylinder has a burnt exhaust valve.
    - Cylinders #1, 2, and 8 all have score marks; looks like either piston rings weren't installed correctly or they were file fit and not de-burred on outsides.

Haven't torn down the motor completely to see if there is any main/rod bearing damage, crank journal damage, or skirt damage.
