At issue is the possibility that the High Court will hear the case of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. City of New York, which dealt with legal limitations on where gun owners could transport their licensed, locked, and unloaded firearms.

The (D) senators are urging the court to turn down the case out of fear that the court’s majority will reinforce the Heller decision with a decision that provides even greater Second Amendment protections for gun owners.

So they want to threaten the court with illegal reorganization ?

I just ordered a Kimber Stainless 2 .45 from Cabellas. Used to just show my CPP and walk out the store with it.
    Nope.
Of course Washington claims there is no 'Waiting Period' But now in addition to your Fed background check, they have to send a background check to your local LE Agency. So yeah, a 'waiting period'.
I really don't care as I have no issues, but I DO care 'JUST BECAUSE'.
    F'N freaks.
Yes this is 'off topic'! I won't be concealing this anywhere!!!

^That’s the kind of thing that worries me. (Being paranoid doesn’t always mean you’re wrong). Imagine a future full of state and/or local ‘checks’ that have to be made, and those checks going through the hands of people who have no incentive to help you, or worse, have some incentive (personal, ideological, political, or simply being paid by someone) to hinder you. It can be hell now just getting a building permit!

Don't want to steer this into the political realm, but in some states (California and New York come to mind) that's pretty much already the case.

That is why I posted what I did!,
If I travel from Ohio and through NY state and I'm stopped for a traffic stop? I have my gun in my car unloaded and I can be arrested for a felony even though I have a valid CCW permit from my home state!
That possible action nullifies my 2nd amendment right to bear arms?

I would go along with a national gun license if it were to give everyone the right to carry and buy any gun in any state. It would knock the crappy states like Mass and NY right back on their heals. Our Constitutional rights don’t stop at state lines although some states think they can make their own rules. I hope the Supreme Court sends these rogue states a serious message.

Interesting story from 20 years ago. My Father passed away in Western NY where he was living and the police had taken possession of his rifle as he was living alone. I went to the police station to retrieve his possessions including the rifle. I was not even licensed in NY. Small town police department and they just handed it to me? No questions at all? When I walked out I was sure I would be arrested. Didn’t happen. I drive carefully to my uncles who lived there and gave it to him. You never know.

The problem with a national firearms license is the fact that it’d be national. I don’t like the idea of it being accessible by political appointees, FBI, ATF or similar agents. I don’t like there being a national database of owners. I fear the spectre of the database becoming cross referenced by other agencies, being subject to the political whims of our elected officials, and it growing to include an inventory of what we own (recording every purchase). This ‘one inch’ could be run many miles.

Hate to break it to you guys, but any 4473 you fill out is already accessable to the ATF and local authorities. Ive had instances on both sides of the sales counter in this regard. I just recently got a call from a small PD in a locality Ive never been to in regards to a firearm I sold over a decade ago that was confiscated (not used in a crime thankfully) and I was the original purchaser. It had changed hands numerous times, and they were trying to figure out who legally owned it. They got my info from the NICs paperwork, and used a database (this particular one created by Lexus Nexus) to contact myself, my wife, and a few distant family members. This is the only social media sites I use so I keep a relatively low online profile, and they still were able to tie all these people to me. If you think the powers that be can't figure these things (and more) out already, you'd be in for a shock.

You don't need a national data base on a CCW!
I'm married in any state I travel through or to? Same deal with my CCW! I'm licensed here and it should be honored in ALL states? my license plate informs police officers of my CCW and failure to inform a police officer of having a firearm in the car is breaking the law!
So in NY state I need to transport my guns separate from the ammo? then what protection under the 2nd amendment does that afford me?
Very slippery slope to hinder the 2nd amendment in anyway IMO!
Remember the income tax was voluntary in 1935! see how that works? :)

Not entirely true. Not all states have a "duty to inform" stipulation in their CCW laws. Here in Ohio we do have duty to inform, but some surrounding states do not.

In Mass you don’t have to tell a cop if stopped

If I have my gun on me or in my car and I'm stopped for any reason I'm automatically going to inform the officer of the gun in my car! :)
Just to be safe and totally clear ! :)

Yep, out the window with both my hands/arms clearly in plain sight, and I say "I'm just letting you know I have a firearm with me, and it's located _____. I'm not a threat and I'm not going to move until you tell me what you want me to do." I've been cuffed and stuffed on the ground with 7 armed officers around me with guns drawn in a case of mistaken identity. I was sure that was going to be the end of me, they were so amped up. I always do my best to explain that I'm not a threat.

I finally gave in to totalitarianism and am taking a 4-1/2 hour CC class in October for 89.00... while I still can. Post class is a 40.00 app with the local sheriff with a probably 2 week wait. I am sure when they come for my guns, anything recently purchased (commercially) is going to be a red flag. Theres still plenty of "unknowns" from pawn shops in the 80's though. Looking seriously into a S7W EZ Shield in .380 for Pat. Its got a very easy action and slide with a muzzle break for minimum recoil. Easy on that arthritis pal... ws
