I have a Utah license which allows you to carry in around 30 states. New York forget it. Even people who live there are persecuted and I am sure they would execute you if they could. The Southern three New England states forget it. Carry here for those not licensed here forget it. Go directly to jail and forfeit your rights. The three Notthern New England states have constitutional carry. I can’t figure how this is possible in Vermont with Bernie coming from there? The ironic thing is you can’t get to the Northern New England States without going through that giant sinkhole called New York. Be careful guys. They would like nothing more than to throw you in their already overfilled jails.

Not a carry piece by any means, but since this has become the defacto gun thread on here I thought I'd share. I just got my approval (tax stamp issued) from the BATFE for an SBR. It's built to closely mimic (not quite a "clone" per-say as I tweaked a few things to my liking) the mk18 mod 0 used by DEVGRU and a few others. Did a quick 210 round test run yesterday at lunch, ran like a sowing machine and was remarkably soft shooting even when compared to some of my other larger AR's. I'll still likely change/tweak a few things, but I'm pleased with how it turned out.

For work, I carry a Sig Sauer p238 .380 with a pocket holster. For all other occasions, I have an inner waistband holster with a Sig p226 40 cal. I even have a holster mounted above the rear view mirror in my wagon for easier access than if I were to try to pull from the waistband while seated.

I'm a southpaw, so when I enter the driver's side of a vehicle my handgun is difficult to access. I , like alot of folks, have gone thru a few holsters til I found ones I was happy with for everyday carry. I was planning on utilizing the rejects for mounting in my work van and car to improve accessibility. Something for me to fiddle with ....Jim

It's a left handed draw holster, which makes it mount on the right side. I drilled through the outside of the holster so I could use 2 self tapping screws to secure the holster.

That setup can’t work for 90 percent of us.

Here in MISSOURI we finally figured it all out in 2018 and found that it was un-Constitutional to require us to have a permit to exercise our 2nd Amd. and we OPEN CARRY now, its best to advertise that you're armed, stops the criminals when they see we are prepared for them.....

That's great! The only problem comes with reciprocity. Many states require you to have a current license in your state in order to carry in theirs.
The solution to this would be to continue with constitutional carry, but also offer a concealed license for those who want to travel to other states and legally carry.

There are 2 very differing thoughts on that. One, yes, it could be viewed as a deterrent. Perps don't generally like resistance.

The other is, say you're standing in the grocery store trying to decide what flavor of yogurt you want, someone comes in deciding they want to shoot the place up and see you with a gun on your hip. Guess who becomes their first target? YOU. Now you've lost that element of surprise where if the shooting starts and they all of a sudden panic because someone is shooting back. They've engaged the you first as you are a perceived threat to them, and there's a very real possibility they'll now see yours before you see theirs. They've got the element of surprise and the tactical advantage in identifying an armed individual before you do.

Now this is all just varying theories, there's no hard and fast 100% answer either way. Infinite variables may dictate one way or the other, such as the perp enters and sees 3 folks open carrying, realizes they are outgunned, and decides to back out. Again, there's no solid real world right or wrong answer unfortunately. But something (just one thing of many) to think about on the merits of open vs concealed carrying.

So who here has ever pointed a gun with intent to kill or harm? Or fired a gun at someone as a warning shot?

One time was in the middle of a Saturday afternoon at a bicycle shop. I made the "road rage" guy give me his keys. I still have them.

I have twice, though I won't say the intent was to "kill or harm", it was to "defend", but I guess that could be considered semantics at that point. Once was a junkie trying to climb into my truck at an intersection in a bad part of Dayton one night. Once was a guy in a black hoodie croutched down beside my truck at my house at 3 in the morning when my wife was about to leave for work. That one is actually a funny story, too long to type here. Both times sucked and I hope to never do it again.

Probably depends on what type of firearm and from what era. Some people are into some pretty cool things.

I suppose "defend my life" is a better term.

Funny story. I was at a checkpoint in a LITTLE VA town with one stop sign. Barney along with a state trooper was conducting a checkpoint. I pulled up and Barney asked for my license and such. There was a Sig 226 laying in the pass seat in plain view, and I made him aware immediately.

This is exactly as it happened. He went running (walking fast) to the state trooper and said "he's got a gun, he's got a gun". The state trooper came over, and I could see that he would much rather be doing something else.
