... ...it's related to "mistake" aspect of conversation, which came from "fueling," derived from possible cause of crash. "Stream-of-consciousness" discussions can do that...
Number 4 was feathered according to the preliminary...same as one of my favorite music videos & the "Pacific Pearl". Accident at Bradley probably not flak and Zombie related despite the coincidence.
Have we established positively that this B-17 was filled with Jet A? I have not been able to verify this, and if it were true I think that it would have been a major news story. The HARTFORD COURANT ran a story that the #4 engine's propeller was found in the feathered position indicating a engine that had been shut down, and #3 prop was found to be partially feathered, indicating that the engine was in the process of being shut down. I am skeptical of aviation crash stories that come out immediately after the accident, news outlets are often more interested in being first then in being accurate. From my experience, The flight crew's duty is to "first, fly the airplane." If they were in the process of attempting to shut down and feather an engine/prop on very short final, I think that their efforts would have been better spent in the direction of getting the plane on the ground rather then worrying about shutting down an engine. I do not present this little scenario as fact, but I sure would like to see some solid information about this.
...we'll get solid info from NTSB, but unless they find "smoking gun," probably can't definitively solve crash, most everything collects more data than a B-17. As for fuel, NTSB prelim says “A fuel sample was able to be recovered from one of the No 3. engine’s two fuel tanks. The recovered sample had a visual appearance and smell consistent with 100LL aviation fuel and was absent of debris or water contamination”...
