I have stock 70 gs455. What do you think is best? stock replacement or 1" drop? I have a front disk upgrade kit to install with stock spindles. hector
I like my cars as low as I can afford but it all depends on what you're looking for. If they're original springs then a 1" drop spring may even raise your car from its current height. With certain headers, they can get pretty close to the ground with a drop. UMI makes some nice stuff (even stock height springs) as well as have pictures of their springs on A-bodies. They also frequently do 10% off around holidays.
i guess your right, new versus old. i was worrying if the 1" drop would limit my tire choices. i guess they may increase
I went with Hotchkis 1" drop springs on my `65 and the car ended up sitting at exactly the same height as the stock springs, which I figured had settled over the years but I liked it and wanted to keep it there. I guess I gambled and got lucky. And the car rides and handles much better than it did with the stock springs. I'm thinking of putting a set of them in my El Camino.
i have a set of 15" rallys that i want to mount 255 60's on. some thread on tire size people were discussing possible rub
For stock height street 455's that vintage I use the Moog #5398 front coil springs. About $75.00. Larry
Are you guys that run the 5398’s have AC and loaded cars,or bare bones. The front end weight can be much different.
My car has full interior, with the exception of poly racing buckets. Under the hood, no a/c , iron headed 462 with aluminum intake, MT SS headers hanging underneath.... I'll get pics tonite, I believe I have the same tires as OP, will verify.....Jim
