Is it worth it to machine off the choke housing from a Holley 850 double pumper? I removed the choke plate a few years ago & don't have any problems starting it. I'm wondering if it will get me any increased flow if I remove it. I'm currently running the stage two scoop & a home built ram air system.

    Thanks,
    Ken

Back a few years ago I owned a Superflow flow bench that I used for building/checking carbs. In a test I did, I remember getting about 20 cfm by milling off the choke horn to level with the top of the carb body. There may be more by shaping the air entry like BG used to do (before the Demon days). If you do it yourself make sure you totally disassemble the carb before you do it, and then clean every passageway 3 times before you put it back together!!! Check all of the air bleed holes and the booster holes. I would say it's worth it if you're looking for the most out of your carb. You may notice a couple hundredths at the track.

By the way - the biggest increase in cfm I found was by milling the throttle shafts thinner. Just don't go too thin. Food for thought.

    Have fun.

You could get one of those proform main main bodies. No air horn, choke tower, and choke control. They also come with adjustible screw in air bleeds, performance down leg boosters, and jet kit. Just a thought.
