Hi ; I have a guy that wants to sell me a 72 Centurion 2dr ht. It ha recently rebuilt 455 stage1 with a 3 spd auto. Body is partly dismantled with all the parts to reassemble in boxes? Rust is not bad . what do you think would be a fair price?

Do you have any photos? Interior condition? Photos of the rust?

Never buy a car in boxes unless it is very very rare. This car is not. I have seen some great ones running and driving sell for 5 to 10k. There is no way you can match that price with this car considering what will be needed. This car wore down the last owner and you could be the next person to touch this tar baby.

I agree with Jim. Unless you are buying it for parts then you are better off finding on together and driving. These cars aren't worth that much and they are not that difficult to find in decent shape.

The rebuilt engine gives perceived value, but unless you know what was done and who did it then it's nothing more than a crapshoot

Unless a well known Buick engine builder built that engine, and he has receipts to prove it, consider it a core. Like the others here said, I would run away unless it is close to free.

See this all too often unfortunately. Not that you need any more advice but as mentioned basket cases should be passed on unless its a high dollar car. The owner has a boatload of money tied up in it and expects someone else to take all the risk and try to put something back together that they took apart. These projects are hard enough to do when you are the one taking it apart.
As mentioned a rebuilt engine does not mean much unless there is documentation from a qualified builder who will stand behind it in writing even with a new owner.
Sometimes sellers of these projects will eventually find a sucker after many months or years.
