 Ok all you buick folks in Nebraska,Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois and any one else. The guys and gals in New Jersey sound like they have a good idea and a lot of fun when they do this. How does everyone feel about doing something like this around here? Mike Atwood and Mike Garrison and Freedster I expect you to put in your two cents worth on this and tell me what you guys think.Perhaps at a track in Neb. or KCIR(K.C. International Raceway)1/4 mile track. Mike G. have you ever raced there and if so what type of track is it ?i.e good or bad.Let me know what you guys think. Sounds like more fun than the CarCraft Summer Nats!!!!

    get together

Mike. YES The racing would be fun but also a picnic and some BS'ing. Also a chance for our wives to meet and understand what this fascination with our cars is all about  Gotta get ready for work but I'll talk more a little later:cool:

    Sounds like a good time:beer

I've been looking for something to do around here anyway.
I love a good BS session...and beer. Wouldn't mind watching some rubber burn either...although I don't think my LeSabre would win many races. I could smoke some tires though:laugh:

    I'm in as well!

Hopefully we can get a better turn out than we had at the picnic last summer.
Wth the growth in the last few months, we should be able to get more people to show up.

    get together

Attn. Mike Atwood:what do you think as far as a location for a Second Central Plains Buick get together? I was thinking possibly KCIR because it is a fairly centralized location for all the states I mentioned plus a few I didn't. I'm not sure about how the track there would greet us or accomodate us , just an idea. If anyone else has some input on a location, please feel free to speak up. KC is close(3 hours)for me but I realize further for others so any input is welcome. We still have time to plan:beer Let's hear everyone's thoughts on a location and a date. Also Mike , what is the track that was mentioned awhile back that is north of Omaha, Neb. ? Is it a good track? Will they welcome us with wine and roses or weenies and roids:moonu: ?How does everyone else feel about Omaha, Neb.?Jeesh I'm already stoked thinking about hearing all those Buicks screaming down the track!!!:Brow: :Brow:

It is a little far for myself for a weekend trip but maybe in a year or too. But location has to be good for the mass of BPG club members to attend as well as future club members also.

Phil, the idea is to just get people together no matter where you are located. I just thought it would be fun to do this and if it is too far to drive for some people,( i.e. gas mileage), try planning a get together for your area. If you can get Buick folks together you will always be guaranteed a good time no matter where you are.:TU:

I'll volunteer to help organize such an outing in Kansas City, if there is sufficient interest. If it's 10 or fewer we could have it at my place, or if there's enough for a show, I could work on finding a place to have it.

As another option, Kansas City International Raceway (KCIR), the local dragstrip, is available for club event bookings, so I could look into that if there is interest as well. I've never been there, but from what I gather they would have sufficient space for a "race and show" type event. Their website is here:

    http://www.kcir.net/

Post your ideas here, and I'll see what I can do.

I defenitly understand. The problem is I think the Centeral plains region is spread out vastly and I think we were trying to minimize the distance to have get togethers. Me being in the southern hemisphere (texas) it is a 7 hr drive to tulsa. kansas might be good for me but kearney is defenitly a haul. I have asked a few questions here and on the BPG board. I understand this is only a convience factor for me and other central texas members and if We are convienced then someone else is inconvienced. Just sturing the pot. Any thoughts

    Added notes

I took the precaution of dropping a note to KCIR to see if they did this sort of thing:

Their website said that free dates were filling fast so I figured there was no harm in throwing a hat in the ring.

The track outside Omaha is in Scribner. Its about 50 miles N/W of Omaha on Hwy 275. As far as how they would welcome us I can't answer. Todd Borland can answer that a lot better as he has spoken to the track owner.

Its a good track, The IHRA used to run it in there regular season a few years ago before they (the track) switched to NHRA. If it can handle 5000 hp top fuel dragsters and funny cars it can definatly handle our Buicks.

My input on a get together would be if we find a place agreable to everyone is that we find a place with some shade for those of us who cannot handle the heat (I had heat stroke a few years back, but thats another story) I think that this would make it more enjoyable for everyone.

If we decide not to do the race thing then I think a state or large city park would be the ticket.

    Just my .02 worth

    Re: get together

Either Omaha or KC would be ok with me. KC might be a little more centrally located, but we need to see who is interested in attending and how far each one is willing to drive. Heck maybe start a poll! You might even have to split the north and south and have two separate get togethers....... Omaha is pretty good drive from TX ...... KC is too. I think KC is about 6 hrs from me here, which isn't too bad.
If I am like everyone else....dunno, I am very different  , I will be driving the GS down. So if it rains.......I'll be driving something else down. The GS won't be driven in the rain again....ever. :Do No:

Freed, way to jump on this man!I really didn't have a clue as to how to get this going but it sounds like steps in the right direction.Eric also has a good point about the heat issue. Let's keep it up and let us know what you find out from KCIR as far as pricing and events schedule. Thanks for the extra effort and hopefully we'll get as lucky as you are with your car:laugh: Seriously this sounds great and I think if we can pull this off a good time will be had by all:beer This would also be a good way of letting people know how buick folks celebrate their 100 Year Buick anniversary!

Mike, no matter how we look at this there are going to be some people who have to drive a little ways to be there . Your point on having another seperate get together was just what I meant in that no matter where you are, get those Buicks out and people together to show them what we're all about.:TU:
