CC810464-F2D2-4154-A5CF-75472DF1D7C6.jpeg interesting business model. Charge people for a product and shipping, then try to get more money out of them after they pay for everything.

I’ve sold many things and have eaten some shipping costs in my life. But I’ve never tried to make an extra $5 after the sale!

Am fighting Fedex currently right now. Two phone claims on a lost item and now heading to make a formal written claim. It is simply outrageous how much they charge for simple ground shipping of relatively small items. It is also likely outrageous how much some them are likely making, also.

I think all the shippers are giving up so much to Amazon, Summit, WalMart and the like that they’re looking to make it back on the little guys. What CARS did though is cheezy.

Bought an idler arm a couple of years ago, from CARS.. Being overseas I phoned them and got a shipping qoute and the total price everything included..

Apperently wasn’t total price, they charged me ekstra after I paid as well, but it was more like 30-50$ more..

I have not bought anything else from them since..

CARS seems to be a pretty stand-up place, from my experience and from other posts on the board.

They may have simply made a mistake on their website or on their order form. Impugning their reputation without asking them for an explanation seems a little unfair.

You mean reporting facts is unfair?

Just recently had to ship a 3oz. padded envelop to Germany. Left the envelope open so they could inspect the item. DHL was $171.00. UPS store was $151.00. Fed Ex was $131.00. Went to the post office, USPS, with the cost of the envelope of $1.19 total was $15.44. All these diff. places are fairly close to each other so it's not so much of a hassle. I ended up charging him $20.00.

they charge a percentage of the sale. So are they refunding money when buying small and expensive items?

Matt you did what you needed to and got a refund. You then went and purchased (I am assuming) the same type of product from a different vendor. Nothing out of the ordinary here and one of the great things about capitalism :)

2ManyBuicks has his opinion on the matter and feels it could have been done differently. If he has an issue he likely will handle it how they seem fair.

I have purchased many things from Cars LLC, and have not had an issue....yet. I do know though that they estimate a 10% charge on the total goods amount for shipping, not to go below $9.90. After they get packaging and everything sorted, they weigh it up and then get the true shipping costs. Maybe their estimate was low and so they requested the additional funds. The email doesn't convey all the reasons around the need for additional funds. It also seems a little impersonal and maybe was not the best medium to convey that issue. I would call a customer and explain the situation which would likely have garnished a better response, maybe not.

All in all, Cars is a good vendor and a good support for the community. So is the parts place though and I wouldn't hesitate to order any of their products (thru Todd).

    Did ya get anything fun?

I stopped buying from them years ago. Seemed every transaction had an issue and customer service sucked. Too many other options to deal with a lousy establishment. Many of their repo parts are of poor quality, and they also spread incorrect info by advertising parts that are actually not correct for all the applications listed

About 10 years ago I wanted to ship a good quality camera home to the USA from Europe. Portugal, Spain, and Italy all wanted about $100 to ship it and another $100 for "customs inspection". Needless to say the camera came home with me on the airplane.

I've bought incorrect stuff from OPGI and TPP, for what its worth. Haven't bought any incorrect stuff off CARS, but that may just be pure dumb luck.

I've also bought really nice stuff from OPGI, TPP, and CARS. I buy more from OPGI than the others.

Just bought some parts from CARS last week -- showed up quickly, no issues, no extra charges, good product.

If I could just buy everything from ToddsGS, life would be a lot simpler...

I've bought a ton of stuff from CARS, including massive heavy 61 Brake drums and shoes. I live in Australia so I am pretty much used to being bent over of shipping. I have found them always to be very reasonable (ie in the same ballpark as everyone else) on shipping. You guy seriously do not know how lucky you have it for time and cost of shipping across the US. I can pay same or more for shipping than the products and sometimes wait weeks. I have a carb coming from Canada as we speak. US $90 to ship and it's been over a week already and it only just yesterday left Canada customs control. I tend to try and bundle orders as it can save a bit on shipping. The changing of the shipping fee after all said and done though isn't the best customer service. They ship enough and should have bulk shipping contracts with providers they should be able to provide a fixed shipping fee accurate price up front.

No, I think being in the situation you are in and stating the following is unfair:

You are generalizing about how they do business and stating a strongly negative conclusion without giving them a chance to explain themselves. Those are opinions, not facts. There is a difference.

Sure, cancel the order -- no issue with that. I might have done that too. But part of the good customer service we all desire is making things right when they go wrong. You did not give them that chance and simply threw them under the bus on a publ;ic forum, which just doesn't seem right.

Steve, you don’t have the facts. I did talk with them. They were unwilling to sell the products at the original rate. I posted this after an email and a phone call were made.

So for $5.86 you said screw CARS ?......i ship a lot of parts....some big and heavy....lots of time i take the parts boxed up to the post office and get a shipping quote and sometimes when i take them to ship after giving a total....the rates have went up....am i supposed to eat the shipping increase ? Shipping is getting so expensive anymore....
I have been a customer of CARS for 30 years....no problems here......sorry that it did not work out for you Matt...you took your business elsewhere and were happy...everyone has that option.

    Peace WildBill

p.s.....it would be nice if we could hear both sides if the story.....bad press for $5.86 seems a little rough....
