Found a 65 intake manifold from a poster on here. Just wondering what type of 4bbl carb I should be looking at. Here is one that I'm thinking about buying and then getting rebuilt. It's off an 305 Gm engine. My car is stock and I do believe anything more then a 500 might bog it down. I'm not looking to race the car or anything. I won't be upgrading the cam or anything like that for a while. So that's why I am looking at something standard and pretty much stockish. Thoughts? https://www.kijiji.ca/v-auto-body-parts/london/rochester-carb/1289734814
The Rochester carb won't fit without an adapter. It has small front barrels and huge secondary rear barrels. The manifold has the 4 barrels that are almost the same size front-back. Best bet is to find an AFB for a 65-67 300/340. An aftermarket AFB would work, or even a Holley.
carb #1 - that looks like a pretty standard GM / oem rochester quadrajet . that will be a spread bore ( small primary , large secondary ) carb . your manifold is a square bore manifold ( all 4 holes approx same size) . and different bolt pattern so not a direct fit . i think you are more looking for the older gm style carter 4bbl carb . i have one for sale on here in "parts" . not a sales pitch but it'll give an example to go by .
just saw your second post - yeah thats similar . alot of the buicks will have the front inlet . some will be on the back corner . if not worried about "original" most will swap back n forth ok . and i think in general they are mostly 600-650 cfm . small v8 carbs may be less . if buying an older carb to rebuild FYI old gas in those can be a problem . it gets like red tar . i just did that one and had to remove jets ( rears not fun as they are sunk down into channels in rear of carb ) and soaked for extra time . seemed to clean out fine all said n done .
Carter AFB 4055S works perfectly. Fits a 340 or a 300 and will hook up to your transmission and accelerator rod with no drama.
Here's a list of the carb numbers used on the AFB's for Buick: http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/carter-afb-carburetors-assigned-to-buick.98044/ Best to stick with a 65-67 carb for a 300 or 340. I don't know if the 64 300 carbs have any differences.
