My loving wife wants to buy a carbureter for my 65 Buick GS 401
for my birthday July 29th. I am in a delema as to which carb to get. I have a friend at the local parts store who can get me the correct Carter AFB #3921S rebuilt for $335.00. I have a friend who is a member of our forum who suggested I get a Edelbrock 750 CFM model # EDL 1407 with manual choke. I can purchase this carb for $205.95 plus shipping from Original parts group. If I go with the edelbrock I can not use the original air cleaner and may have some other adjustments and changes I am not sure of. I was wanting to keep this car as close to original as possible when I got started with this project. I have already made some very minor changes that take away from the originality of it. Here is my question for all who care to share your experience and opinions with me. What are the pro's and cons of these carbs, and Which way should I go? Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention that the Carb on the engine is the wrong number acording to info in the GS book, but it is a Carter AFB and was on the engine when I bought the car. The kit I ordered to overhaul it with had the #50-370-3 on the front of the instruction sheet in case any of you may know this model.
    Thanks again.

Bill, Try J&C's (Carmen Faso) up in N.Y. I've been to his place a few times and couldn't believe the AFB and Q Jet carbs he has there. He could build you a brand new AFB for a lot cheaper than 300 bucks. Tele # 716-693-4090 Good luck,
    Dan

Carmen will make you a purrfect Carb for you Wildcat engine. He is excellent. I have 2 carbs from him, he's working on #3. He knows the Nailhead and the carb inside out.

No more Carb delima. Last night I installed an Edelbrock 750 # 1407 with manual choke. Today I took it for a spin, man what a difference. This carb delivers so much more torque than the one I had on, and really is a noticable difference. It looks real pretty to boot. I went with the 14 inch air cleaner that was suggested by Edelbrock for that unit. I will hang on to the original air cleaner and all parts I have changed. I fabricated a temporary kick down linkage to the carb, and I still have to install the correct bracket and switch for my kick down that I ordered from Edelbrock, should be here on my birthday the 29th. I was pleased with how easy the swap was. I thank each and everyone for your opinions and input. Take care all.

    Partial dilemma

    Partial dilemma
I had to wait for the part that was suggested by Edelbrock for the kickdown linkage well past my birthday. When it came it was a little micro switch and a red bracket. I have no instructions on how to wire it in and where to mount it. I wonder if any one of you has ever made this switch and if you could explain what I should do to have this installed properly. I e- mailed Edelbrock, but have yet to get an answer. Hope you can advise me, or know of one I could call. Thanks in advance.

Can you post a few pics of the unit? I will compare it my 66 and let you know if I can help.

Mike at T A wasn't sure what to say, except to get a meter on the switch to figure what wire goes where, and figure out the best way to hook up the bracket. He was very pleasent to speak with. Thanks again.

is that the stall switch to put your th400 in high stall while iding? If so then there should have been a wire on your old carb. Either its that or kickdown.

By looking at the year one site, I found a picture of how the bracket and microswitch is supphosed to mount on the carb. What a discovery. I was going to try to mount the thing on the drivers side of carb, WRONG! Now I have to figure out which wires to hook up to the micro switch after disconnecting and removing the original stator and detent switch. HELP!

I called Jim Burek and spoke with him about the problem I had. He took time away from his busy shop to answer my question about how to wire up the micro switch. He found the correct way to hook it up and I did it as he suggested. NO MORE CARB DELEMMA. She kicks down to first like gang busters, man am I happy. Thanks to all,and take care all. Thank you Jim Burek.

This is true, there may be some adaptor out there but I know of none. The old breather does not breath enough for this 750 Edelbrock. Did you get the picture I sent?

I dom't blame you George, that original chrome one you have is a rare beauty. Someone on the forum may know where to get an adaptor. Take care George.
