carb adapter

    got an adapter from summit for the 322 intake#trd-2064,fits the manifold.question,the holes in the adapter are not drilled all the way through,andthe recessed holes are, looks like on the wrong side, anybody know anytning about this?also i'm looking to get a road demon carb,what should i get in size for the 264 ci nailhead 525 625 or 725 thanks.donny

    Donny ,,,, take a hard look at the adapter that you bought,,,, the 4 counter sunk screws should go toward the intake manifold , so there will be a flat surface for the carb to set on after the screws are screwed down.... and the studs that actually hold the carb on should point in the opposite direction, up toward the hood... so the nuts and washers will go on top of the carb base flange to hold it on....
    Personally , I make my own from 1/4'' rolled steel,,, but I make them the same way.... counter sunk screws go down and the studs go up.... the only way that would be different is if you were to use bolts to hold the carb to the adapter,,, then the bolts would point down but that limits the amount they can travel....
    I would use the holley 600 cfm ''shoe box'' carb that was used back in the 50s and on on factory cars.... they have vac secondaries and so you are actually only running on 300 cfm unless you kick it.... i have one of these on my 425 and it works very well....

    thanks doc will try and find a 600 holly,although i have never liked a holly,its a ford carb from the beginning.suppose in my old age i can change.thanks donny

    Actually , pard, the holley company was putting out carbs before Ford,,, ford made thier carbs later on taking features from holley and incorperating them into the ford carbs,,,, in 58 there was a ford carb on my fairlane that used holley jets, accelerator pump , ect... but the body was a cast alluminum unit that the whole top would come off and you could run it at idle without a top so you could watch the action of the floats and inlet needles....
    I get good mileage from mine,,, 17-18 on a 425 riv.....

    summit has a 600 holley is that the same carb?

    doc sorry to bother you so much but,is the carb the 4160 as is in summit & jegs,thanks for all your help and i probably will ask you about other things in the future,thanks donny

    No bother,,, I took the liberty of looking a couple up at Summit..... holley 0-80450,,,, a new 4160....... or , most likely my pick,,,, holley 65-80457 ..... a reman for 249.95 American dollars.... i would not hesitate to use a holley reman on any of my cars.... and it saves some bucks.....:laugh: :laugh:

    hey doc i told you i would worry you some more.since the 80457s carb is ford what will i have to do to hook up my throttle cable to it?,or will it just hook up without a lot of modifing.thanks donny

    The ''ford'' part is the actuating arm that comes on the carb.... there is a gm style,,, chrysler style and a ford style.... just makes it easier to hook up ....
    Easier because it is a holley because they make a accessory kit that usually takes care of the problem,,,, the only thing that I had to fab up was a apparatus to operate my kick down switch on the 64 riv....I need to re do it to look a little better....
