I've been with American Bankers for a couple of decades; they've kindly and rapidly handled a few claims I've had in that period whether it was a driveway or garage dumb-dumb on my part, or towing service. They've also been perfectly happy to increase my agreed value coverage for reasonable dough and a photo or two. Customer service has always been spot on.
Well Monday I contacted Hagerty to see if I could get a quote. Did the on line chat for a while and was then asked to call an agent. This is when I figured the carport thing was going to be an issue. Agent told me they do not cover items stored under a carport in California ONLY! All other states have coverage. Got a quote from them and bought the insurance at the same time. Just waiting until I get confirmation and hard copies of policy before I drop the dime on State Farm. I had to join the Hagerty drivers club to meet a minimum dollar policy. Got better coverage for less money. Wife says knowing state farm they will raise our rates and take away the multi car discount. Don't care, I'm saving almost 40% this year alone. Thanks for the input.
Hagerty does require a garage or pole building; at least that's what they told me. They refused coverage on the Buchev for just that reason. It lives outside, I do have plans afoot for a garage at some point, but that's still at least a couple of years off.
Just an FYI, Grundy was "Underwritten by Chubb" at 1 Time & I also believe By I believe "Philadelphia". Not sure who the Underwriter is today. I do a Number of Hagerty's Appraisals & have heard only 1 Complaint, where a Custom Truck was Stolen from a "Secured" (Locked Gate) parking area. They Paid off & dropped the Client. (Truck Should have been placed in the building that evening, & No dispute about that) Thieves cut the locks & slid the gate back. The Only complaint I have with Hagerty, personally, is the Mileage limitations, which some other Insurance companies have as well. Limits the time I have to enjoy my cars. JR
JR, Hagerty does not have Mileage limitations. They do not check up on you every year to see how much you have driven.
When I looked on hagertys site 1 of their questions was how many miles per year.. Yes they do charge for milage.. True they probably don't come to your car and check annually.. When I first looked into hag I put down 1000 miles annually to see how much.. then I put in 2500 WOW what a increase. I bought hag just to have insurance. When my car is more road ready.. (I didn't buy my car to look at in in the garage. I bought it to enjoy it) I will be looking into Others..
Hagerty has never asked me for a current mileage on the annual renewal on any of my cars, even the Reatta that gets driven the most.
To me the annual mileage is Bull Pucky.... I understand you can pay for 1000 miles annually and their policy costs XXX.XX And they don't check.. Or you can pay for 2500 miles for a considerate amount more, Now if I want to put 5000 miles on it annually I don't even what see what that amount is. Ok now I could pay for the 1000,, But I put 5000 miles on my car annually.. Well I cant do that... That would make me a lier. Which is also buying a policy under false pretenses... I don't need that biting in the butt...
I just updated my Hagerty Insurance for my Buick last week.Never asked about mileage.I was kinda bummed when I asked about insurance for my enclosed trailer. I have my Featherlite insured through my insurance that covers my home and cars. I probably will get the same for my enclosed trailer. Hagerty covers boats,RVs and other things but not trailers.
Hagertys boat insurance is probably just as bad as your average home & auto insurance.. My boat is insured by CHUBB. They insure my boat motor fails in other words if I was to be boating about and I was to pick up a plastic bag that blocks my cold water intake for my cooling... EPA fuel spills. thats major bucks... and yes they cover my boat trailer.. your average insurance don't cover that stuff... Gieco and progressive is great insurance to the average Joe. Reason why the average Joe likes the commercials.
I know my trailer is covered under my insurance on the vehicle policy as well as my homeowners policy, but I keep my open(and soon my enclosed )under roof so if there is damage to it,it's covered. It also covers damage from uninsured drivers in case they would hit me and have no insurance.Cost is about $48 a year.
Well I just got off the phone 800 CHUBB On a quick call,,,,,, minimum Car value $25,000. 4 walls garage. Car must be complete. In other words not under construction. leaves me out...
I'm only telling what they told me. In any event, at least for now, the Buchev lives outside. It also has a trailer hitch and is used for towing. That's why I built it. I don't think that Hagerty will ever insure it.
