I'm going to try again to find cheaper insurance! Somebody recently said that Hemmings or Hagerty would insure cars that were parked under a carport for an additional charge. Any truth to that? I hate to go through the vetting process with the insurance companies only to be turned down because of the the carport thing, especially when I know of at least two cars that "kept in a garage" but in reality are kept at a different location in a carport. Not going to be deceiving, so that's not an option. State Farm is just gouging the pee out of me and I'd like to find something cheaper. Thanks
I urge you to use Hagerty. Look up DJ GTO's and ask Dan his experience with Hagerty and their claim service. He's a client of mine and into GTO's really deep, selling parts, etc. too. There really is a difference in service. It's not all just about price.
I will be making calls on Monday and will let you know my findings. State Farm is the gold standard I know, but it's costing me too much gold for a toy.
I wouldn’t say that given my 38 years in the industry. Ask them if there would be a loss will they pay you the agreed value or the stated value. Then make them put that statement in writing. You’ll need it when you end up in court. Unless things have changed recently, State Farm is a stated value policy. You want an agreed value policy. Huge difference between the two.
State Farm is NOT the Gold standard in Collector car insurance. I have had State Farm my entire life for home and regular auto but wouldn't even consider them for my collector cars
Usually, AMICA, USAA and Erie are at the top. Here is just one ranking by Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/reneemorad/2018/01/31/the-best-auto-insurance-companies-for-2018/
We are talking classic/collector insurance, the top ranked companies have little to do with which company will give you the best insurance for our collector cars. Kind of like going to the best general practitioner in town for brain surgery, he might be able to do the job but you will probably regret it when you can't tie two words together in a sentence.
Hagerty would be top dog in the collector car, specialty insurance market. Like most in the specialty insurance field, they managed the underwriting and the claims. They are not the carrier in the risk. Hagerty uses Esurance which is owned by Allstate.
I thought there is one that is actually better than Hagerty for collector type car.. Unfortunately their name slips my mind. But then again it probably costs more than the average collector needs..
yeah ,CHUBB. No slight on hagerty at all, but I got better rates and coverage AND most importantly took great care of me when I had a claim. They insure the biggest collections in the world to pee on's like me . I'd get quotes from both. DL
A have a 72 GS 350 with Hagerty. I have it insured at $25,000 if it’s a loss. Maybe overkill but with the price of replacement parts I want it paid for. $440 a year and that’s with the Hagerty premium care or whatever they call it.
More coverage and lower price. Also, there were some other perks, no mileage limits, towing package ,ect. DL
