Yeah, I've had other car makes do this to me in the past, talk about embarassing (also funny the first few times) Until I get a chance to tear into the steering column, what would be the best way to disconnect the horn?? Has anyone else had this happen in their Buick? -Chris
Open the hood and just pull the wires off the horns. They are held on with a spade connector (on older cars, anyway).
there's also the horn contact inside the wheel. it's only two screws on standard wheels to get the front cover off.
A question Chris, if it honks when you turn right and not to the left, what happens when you turn left and then straighten the wheel back out. Does it honk then?o No:
I rember doing pranks like this in Highschool...lol. with the horn, wiper washers... etc. at least its not every time you hit the brakes:Brow:
Sounds like the wire from the horn pad to the colum is striped in an area and grounding out to make the horn go off. If not, then I would assume some electrial gremlin in the column. Check the horn pad contact wire...it takes only 10 min. to get the horn pad off :TU: Larry
Well, the horn doesn't honk when I push the horn button, only sometimes when I turn right, also it seems to do it more often when the right blinker is on. ou: I'll probably check it out next weekend, I hope it's just something under the pad. -Chris
I agree with Larry. Two years ago, I had a bad ground wire and when I turned my directionals on, I could hear the horn relay click, and the hazard lights would flash. I tore out the entire wiring harness...turned ouy it was a body ground, not the harness:laugh:
With my 84 Mercury Topaz GS (my first GS) everytime I turned right the car stalled. Had something to do with putting to much load on the ignition module. Usually I would just coast and put it in neutral and restart it, unless I was going uphill. Then I would get a run at it and then put it in neutral. Regarding your problem: my brother recently put on a new GS wheel on his Skylark. He wasn't able to securely attach the horn wiring and its bound to come loose. Maybe a similar situation for you, or at least hope so. I would rather not have to tear the whole steering column apart. Good Luck!!
