Another entertaining open car meet for your consideration:

Once, again, trying to convene a group of Buick enthusiasts for a great event being held in beautiful White Rock, B.C., on Sunday, August 24th. Many of us who were at the BOPC show, thought this would be a good event to attend, and pick up where we left off on June 29th.
Seems there's lots of interest for local Buick owners to get together, in a casual type of format. I'm willing to get the word out, if you can show your support in coming out to some of these events. We can discuss what we'd like to do next year, as a group.
For more detailed information on this event, The Westcoaster Daze Car Show and Shine 2008, please go to: therodgod.com . Scroll down the home page, until you find the club's events schedule.
Please respond to this thread, if you're planning to attend, as I'll be contacting Buick owners by phone, a week before the show date.

    Take care all,

    Nando.

Hey Nando, you beat me to the punch!

Show is Aug 24 at Semiahmoo Park in White Rock, located at the east end of Marine Drive just west of the Hwy 99/8th Ave interchange (so less than 5min north of the Canada/USA border).

Parking will be on the grass and registration is from 8am to 11am. Registration costs $10. First 250 cars get dash plaques and there will be 100 trophies awarded in 33 classes. Trophies handed out at about 3:30pm. There will be activities also for wives and families. Sounds like a great event and they were happy to hear a group of buicks may be showing up. It would be great to organise a caravan or meeting place so we could arrive together and park in a group. Like Nando said, please post here if your interested in attending!

    Hi Doug,

Thanks for the additional details in what promises to be a great day at the park!
Will also advise (through the forum) interested Buick racers, in about mid-August, of a tentative race date at Ashcroft on Saturday, September 13th. Would be nice to get together on Friday night, prior to racing the next day. There seems to be ample accomodation in Cache Creek for us out-of-towners. Will probably bring the '86 GN out for some racing.
On Sunday, September 14th, our local car club will be co-hosting an open event in Squamish. More details to come.
My girl friend and I will be in Sechelt this weekend for the 13th Annual Sleepy Hollow Run. This event usually draws 200+ specialty cars. Really looking forward to being there. Have contacted another Buick nut from Secret Cove, not too far from Sechelt. Sounds like he has a serious 10-sec. machine.
Oh, as well, Doug, I spoke to Bart 3 days ago. He's still trying to contact the owner of the '67 LeSabre. Hopefully, he'll be able to provide something of value to you.
Nice to see Vern Bethel featured in August 1st Vancover Sun's Driving section. Bart met him when he picked up the '70 bumper and tail lenses, and got the royal tour. Bart was very impressed with Vern's time capsule/collection.

    Take care,

    Nando.

I might show up... depends on the weather and of course the gf factor, but I think she will be up for it. It's also a long drive, so just not sure yet.

    Hi Jeff,

Certainly would be nice to see you make the trip up with your '65. Maybe, Dave K. from Anacortes, could bring up his '65 Skylark GS, as well. Haven't seen that car since 1988. Looked stunning in black!

    Keep in touch,

    Nando.

    Morning Jamie,

I haven't been across the border since 1990, but I believe for documentation: a driver's license, and birth certificate would be enough. Ideally, a current passport, would be sufficient - and I think a passport may be a minimum requirement next year.
From what I recall, most of the problems arise when you're returning to your country of origin. Questions like: " Very nice wheels. Do you have receipts for them? or What's with the trunkful of starters and alternators? Your car not running right."
It should be no problem, especially if a group of Buicks, make the trip across the border together.

    Look forward to meeting you,

    Nando.

    Nando;
I talked to Bart a few days ago, he has the LeSabre and I'm likely heading out on Sunday to pull some parts. I think he plans to haul it to the crusher once I'm done, so I'll pull anything I think someone might be able to use.

Jeff/Jamie: The biggest issue with the border is the line ups. There are two border crossings within a few minutes of each other out where the show is, and most of the traffic is leaving Canada in the morning and leaving the US at night. If you come up, you should be opposite to that rush. I don't think you need a passport yet for land crossings into the US, but you will soon (March 2009) so to get back across, you need proof of citizenship so like Nando said, Driver's License and Birth Certificate if you don't have a passport. Any time I've crossed with the Buick for a show in the US I get absolutely no hassle as it's pretty obvious what I'm up to in the convertible. Hope some of you can make it!

    Hello all,

Met a few Buick owners at the 13th Annual Sleepy Hollow Run in Sechelt this past weekend. I'm hoping they can make it out to the show on August 24th :

    Greg : 1961 LeSabre Convertible
    Dan : 1967 Skylark GS
    Andrew : 1987 10-sec. GN
    Ernie : 1965 Skylark 10-sec.race car, 1969 Skylark GS400 convertible

Dropped a few cards off with other Buick owners, I didn't meet.

Doug F. : Will you please contact some of the local Buick guys next week to remind them of the show? I'll do the same.

    See you soon,

    Nando.

    Hi all,

Just a reminder to bring your Buick out on August 24th. Hopefully, the weather will co-operate on Sunday.
Any parts to sell? Why not bring them out. I have friends in need of:
    - 1969 Skylark front bumper, Skylark script for exterior sail panel on a '64
-Set of (4) 15"x7'' Buick Skylark Rallye Wheels ('70-'72)
-1970 Skylark long-style automatic console wth shifter, and all hardware

Have contacted some Buick enthusiasts this past week, and hope to have 10-12 Buicks in attendance. Spoke to Greg Falls of Sechelt, who owns a 1961 LeSabre convertible, while I was at a recent car show there. He'd like to start a Buick club, encompassing all types of specialty Buick models. I'll suport him in his endeavor, if he's indeed serious about forming a club.

    Take care all,

    Nando.

    Nando;
I've talked to several guys about the show, including the owner of a georgeous 67 Skylark convertible, black with red interior that I met at the golf course. Has had the car since 1983 and it is a local car sold at Bowell Maclean on Broadway. The car is in fantastic original condition.

The weather doesn't look like it's going to cooperate for Sunday... may be easy to win some trophies, at least for you hardtop guys, the Electra may be staying in the garage!

BTW, Vern Bethell called me the other night looking for your number. Apparently someone he knows is looking for 70-72 Skylark parts.

I'll talk to you this weekend and confirm what I'll be doing.

    Hi Doug,

Clive is the owner of a 1970 Skylark Custom. He contacted me last night about some parts needed in restoring his Buick, such as : Original AM/FM radio, interior sail panel dome lights, chrome wheel well mouldings, and a Skylark front radiator grille. He can't be at White Rock on Sunday, but hopes to meet with us soon.
I still plan to attend the show. The weather can be surprisingly better in White Rock, than anywhere else on the mainland.
Certainly call me tonight. I'll be cleaning the GS for tomorrow's show.
I'll also start a new thread on the forum regarding racing at Ashcroft on September 13th. I hope to race the GN. I'm being ribbed by the regular GN racers not to embarass them by running the "86 in stock trim. What's the worst it can run at 1700' elevation? High 14's?

    Talk to you later,

    Nando.

    Hi Doug and all,

Well, Doug, since we'd already had lunch together today, and I sort of gave you a run-down of the day's events , I'll update others of what transpired at the Westcoasters' show this past Sunday.
Did I not tell you the weather would be better in White Rock! I'm sure we had least an inch less rain than Burnaby did. Wow, was it wet out at the park! Most years, this popular event draws up to 500 specialty vehicles, and bikes. This year's bad weather resulted in about 100 cars participating. Some trophies remained on the table because of the low turn-out of vehicles. I can't blame anyone for not showing up, but I was committed to going, in case any other Buick owners made it out. I believe there were 7 Buicks in attendance. By my count, 5 of 7 Buick owners received trophies in their assigned classes. That's great! Met some good folks from the GNRA club. Their club had 4 GNs grouped together. Just loved Geoff Cornwall's non-intercooled GN. I had the '71 GS455 at the show, and besides Paul Paulsen's beautiful 1972 GSX-styled Buick, that was it for GS representation. We took 1st and 2nd place trophies, respectively, for the '70s Original/Restored class.
Highlight of the day was a planned wedding ceremony at the park, during the show. The groom owned a stunning 1949 Cadillac convertible, which the newlyweds, drove away in at the close of the day. Altogether, a very fun day, and I'll certainly go again next year... whatever the weather!

    Take care,

    Nando.
