You know, that area just above the tach, clock, or blank on a 70-72 where the dash tends to warp upwards. Has anyone attempted to straighten this area and been succesful? If so, how did you get it done?
Never on an A body car but on other newer cars. Heat gun, Contact cement. never turned out perfect. Always eventually let go.
I saw the old threads about this using a continuously monitored halogen lamp to heat up the dash pad. That's a bit worrisome for me and wanted to know peoples opinion on the idea below. My dash pad recently warped in the string of high 80, low 90 degree days we had here in the Cleveland, Ohio area. My thought was to leave the dash pad in place, cover it from end to end with a large beach towel and then lay a 2 x 6 across the entire length of the pad and then put some amount of weight directly over the warped area. I was then going to put it back in the sun for the day in hopes of reversing the process. Has anyone tried this or something similar? If not, do you think it will work? Do you think one day's worth of heat will do it? Is there another successful process that someone can suggest? Thank you !!
I have used the halogen lamo method several times. Just never walk away from it and don't let it burn. Keep adding books for weight.
After quite a search and broken promises, I found one. It required a repaint but I am pleased with the results. The old dash isn't terrible and I will hold onto it as a backup but it would be nice to have two straight dashes.
