camaro ss auto

The guy that owns our local convenience store considers himself a muscle car expert because he restored cars for many years before selling his stash and buying that store.
When I told him what I had he asked me to drive it in sometime so he could take a look. I drove it one day and you could see in his face how much he wish he had his cars back. Shortly after that he had a 2010 camaro ss on order and couldn't wait to get it and blow my doors off. Mean while another local guy thought an ss sounded like fun and bought one off the dealership floor. So now every time I went in to the store the owner would talk smack and ask when I was going to race this other guy. I subscribe to the "walk softly and carry a big stick" theory. So every time he told me what a chicken I was or how bad I was going to get beat I would just nod and say "yep, your probably right"
So one day I drove the regal then got off early and headed to the store. He asked if i was ready and I told him to call the guy up, let's do this. I thought he was going to pee himself he was so excited.
So the guy shows up and I head outside. A guy getting gas tells the camaro dude how cool his car is (completely ignoring my car, of course) and that he has heard how fast they are. The car owner says that we were about to find out. (my favorite part) the gas guy says "whos gonna race you?" Then sees my BUICK and says "what! That old cutlass!? Your gonna blow his doors off!" So I stand up and say "its a BUICK" and he says "i don't care what it is your gonna get your A kicked!"
So we pull out on the highway, woman at store drops her arms and I watch the camaro drive away from me as I fight for traction. Right when I think that there is no way I can make up the four car lengths I hook and book! Within a couple seconds I'm thinking I might catch him! Sure enough as we pass the store owner who has his video phone out, I pull half a fender ahead.
When we get back to the store the 'gas man' is shaking his head getting into his truck before I can say anything.
The guy I raced now has a cold air kit and is sure that will make up the half fender. Seems no body is thinking about all that time I spent spinning tires and feathering the throttle.
Now the store owner has his car but all of a sudden its "too nice to beat on" and he won't race me.
Sometimes the last frame or two won't show up on you tube but I really do win!

I'm sure you do, but do you have drag radials? They probably wont solve your problems on the street, but they will help a lot.

I like how people dont think older cars are fast. I do like the new camaros but they are way over priced.

 

I disagree, look at all the other cars out there that compare to the camaro performance and handling wise and you will see the majority of them are $50,000 cars. hell the 2010 mustang GT was equally exspensive as the Camaro SS yet only had 315 hp, a 5 speed manual and wimpy brakes. fortunately ford stepped up to the plate for 2011 and the GT is now comparable to the camaro and the challenger SRT8. my camaro ran 110 mph in the quarter and would have been deep in the 12's had i been able to get a good 60' with the 6 speed manual.

I like them too. Wish I had one but wouldn't get rid I'd what I have.

Shortly after the race one of my thirteen year old boys told me that it wasn't a fair race because my car was modified and his wasn't. I then explained to him that my car represented a total investment of about eight grand, fourty year old parts, garage built by my two hands. The camaro represents the latest in technology, millions of dollars in R&D, and a cash payment of fourty some thousand dollars.
He sees my point now.

I LIKE COOL CARS, period.

 

FYI a loaded Camaro SS with a 6 speed manual is mid 30 thousand range, i still like my 2 classic buicks better but i do like the Camaro

Nice kill. See if you can get him to go to your local track where the stickies will really help you a ton. A lot of those camaro's come to our track and run the things on street tires with the traction control on. I try to tell them how much they are leaving on the table but they just don't believe it. All the one's that have ran at our track run 9.50's 1/8th mile and my 72 lark with simular setup to yours runs 8.20-8.40. You would kill him if he relies on the traction control.
