    Ray,
Looks like everyone helped you sort this out. Haven't heard back from you. Bet you don't have much hair left after this job. Give me a call when you have time.

Rob Ross, I spent some time looking up what cam you purchased but I can not find anyone with the name Rob Ross that has purchased a cam from us. I'm not the best with names so if I have spoke with you in the past on this I apologize. Just doesn't sound right that someone here and especially myself would just say no and we will try harder next time.

According to the cam description, stock converter and gears are OK. http://www.taperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TA_284-88H

If the car is to be mainly street driven, I'd get a custom converter. TA Performance has a line of converters. Either talk with Mike, or give Jim Weise a call and ask what he suggests. Maybe something a little more than stock.

Look under Greg Avery, it was a soft roller for a project we did in 03-04 ish. You can pm if you would like to discuss anything related to this or other experiences.

I was going to call you Mike and thank you for your help. I am putting together a order for you, and will call you when I have it.

My opinion is once you deviate from a stock cam, you always need a looser torque converter. I thought my 70 Stage 1 could have benefited from more converter when it was completely stock.

Take Larry's advise and call Jim Weise at Tri-Shield Performance.

The intake valve closes 3* later than the original 284-88 cam specs which will raise the power band up some.
Also considering the smaller 400 displacement will have less torque than a 455.

You will probably need something that stalls around 2300 to 2400 rpms.

    Rob,
    What I found for Greg Avery was;
9-14-04 purchased a catalog $5 Dave, Ship US mail
    6-24-05 purchased a 160 thermostat $13.15 Mike, Ship ground
3-21-06 purchased a 455 roller cam blank which included bronze thrust washer, given $5.00 refund for catalog $469.60 Dave, Ship ground
5-30-06 purchased 2 bronze MSD gears $128.70 Virginia, Ship Red
    11-11-09 purchased .120 multilayer head gasket $225.00, .062 Stage1 intake gasket $18.00

That is all the sales history I see. The invoice with the cam blank does not indicate that we ground it nor does it show any charge's or spec's for grinding.

I'm sorry but this is all I can find on Greg.

There were two soft roller grinds in the order, I'll ask Greg if he has any more info.

    Rob,
I'm sorry again here, but what is a soft roller grind?

His invoice showed only 1 unfinished 455 roller cam core. No indication that we ground the cam.

I don't think you looked far enough back. Which Mike is this? A soft roller is a non billet blank, has the roller lobes but is soft...they only last 200-300 street miles, but a cheap way to evaluate a cam before you spend the big buck on a roller.

    Rob,
Looked back all the way to the 90's. What I posted is every order and item sold to Greg Avery in our system.

I asked Greg to get an invoice number or something from the order to help you.

Haven't found the invoice yet but we have this. Maybe the grind numbers will help and/or the other bits of info.

Here's an invoice that isn't mentioned above. Maybe his address will help? I asked for Greg's permission to post this.

    Rob,
I never looked that far forward, you said 2003-2004. Are system is broken up into 3 or 4 archived files back into the 90's. We have had corrupted files through the years and had to start over. But I have tried to save the info instead of deleting it. All of Greg's stuff I was able to open and see. I did find that invoice so I updated my early post. I see you have cams.

I made a bad guess on the time frame. Yes, we have cams, shipment was not the issue, the wrong lobe was.

I don't believe these cams were sold to Greg. I'm Guessing Diamond Racing maybe. But when I tried to open anything for them it just gives an error and kicks me off. So the files are corrupt for Diamond, so I don't know. How far off was the lobe.
