Yes dear, I know what an exhaust pipe is. I helped the jerk I was married to back in the 70's and 80's rebuild our Chevy Nova engine (283?) twice. Give me the old cars any DAY!!! To learn to drive I had to learn how to check the oil, tires and hoses. I could never get the strength to change a tire though. But I know how to read a pressure gage.

Back in the 70's in AZ. they had pits you could drive over and work on the underneath of a car. Pretty dirty and greasy but got the job done....ppat

WOW... this is my busy time of year getting all the stuff ready for winter, and AC install for the house, Pats travelling south of the Mason-Dixon line, winterizing and covering the boat and tomorrow finish up the install on the new (to me) gas furnace in Garage "B". Gotta little bit to go and Ill be at a point with the B-Turd of continuing on or flipping it.
The little bassturd starts, runs and drives quite well. The next step is to do either some touch up work on the paint or paint the whole car over the winter. Im not sure if the net value can outweigh the time and expense of doing a whole job. I cant seem to get a real world value on this car. Right now I have my limit of allowance wrapped up in it. Ebay and CL are my best bet for evaluating it and those guys are all over the place and mostly B.S. IMHO.
I want to get the most out of it so I can move on to a GM project. This guy other than a few scratches etc does not have a spot of rust on it, and would make an excellent "palette" for a coffee can muffler loving kid to start with. Its a 2.3 turbo 5 speed with a VIRGIN ashtray(s). Need some input guys ! It would even make a great trade for a project car that got to be too much and some body was overwhelmed and wants out. Any thoughts or ideas??
FWIW, a 1972 GS is 203" in length and this guy comes in at just about 200". I was shocked! Seems way smaller! Thanks! ws

That puts me in the ballpark Luke... I hate to just sit on it and field a million Niggerian phone calls! Feel free to pass the word; you kinda know what Im looking for. I know shipping 2000 miles can be a hassle, but maybe something could be worked out on that too. Just sayin'. Hell, Id drive this thing out to Montana ! The only thing that scares me is the vintage timing belt. Im sure its OEM ... ws

Thanks E-Man! I think Im gonna pull he plug before the $hit gets to the rim LOL... The intention was to do the widow a favor and clear out her garage, and make a few bucks for me. Too bad it wasnt a 1934 Bugatti or something equally as stupid. This car just "aint me". ws

These cars are coming up in value, same as the Mustang SVO's, Monte Carlo SS's, Grand Nationals, Camaro Iroc-Z's. IMO it wouldnt be a bad buy if in really nice condition. Drive here and there, take care of it, enjoy it and send it down the road for a profit. I just bought a 1989 low mileage mint condition Iroc-Z convertible for my girlfriend. Intentions were for her to have something fun to drive, take to shows herself and resell it down the road for a profit. I paid $5k for it. Kelly Blue Book does not go back to 1989 so i cant find a value on it. But i have cruised craigslist looking for similar cars and everything i have seen is $10-$15k so even if i only get $8-9k for it in the future i am still way ahead.

Those Turbo coupes were no slouches either. Friend of mine had a 1983 with over 100k on it. Damn thing acted like a V-8 except it revved much higher. Wicked tire burner. Pull out on the road, rev it to 6k and side step the clutch, bang 2nd and let her eat! Grab 3rd and leave 15-20' of rubber and off you went. The car was good for about 140mph on the top end, not to shabby for a mid size sedan with a 4 banger.

Yeah WC... I am surprised that this guy is such a pooch until it hits the power band; reminds me of 2 stroke dirt bikes. The last 3000 rpm happens so fast its unreal. Another couple of weeks of cleaning it up and itll be ready for the market. Then I can shop around for a 2nd gen Skylark with a 455 and a 4 speed, or a 1966 Catalina 2+2 421/ 4 speed. Dang chevy stuff has been priced outa my realm.
The TC aint bad and only 3 inches shorter than the XGS, but with the velour interior (its in perfect condition with virgin ashtrays!) and being kinda low slung, makes it a chore getting in and out. ws

Posted these before, and a 1953 Olds owner told me that these were pretty model specific from that generation. Any interest just post here...Once they get buried they'll hafta wait for the next archaeological expedition... Each volume is about 1/2" thick... ws

So I finally got around to checking out this thread, it's a hoot, I don't know why I haven't read it before.
Bill that's one sweet B-Turd you have there, enough to gladden the heart of many a Dorf fan. I used to work for an outfit around here called Welcome Fraud (Ford) and I used to dealer transfer those things. They weren't half bad; - actually quite surprising all things considered. Yeah, you have to step into them to get them moving, but once it starts, the car could almost be fun. We regularly drove the snot out of them. So a good one around here starts at about $5K, so if yours just needs some cosmetics then that's about where I'd start. Don't think I'd throw much more into it, either a quick flip or drive it to the ground and back.

So, not to hijack the thread or anything, here's a shot of that 53 Olds I got, I got it for free and it sort of runs; (And it don't look nothing like a 55 Pontiac!)

    IMG_1114.JPG

There's no rust on it, (except what you see) it's complete with a Rocket 303 V-8 and a Hydramatic transmission, and the last time it drove (10 years ago) it did 100 mph. Prior to that, it hadn't run since 1969. The motor is shot, (smokes, runs on 6) it needs tires and the interior could use a good freshening up. Oh, it might need some paint.
It's actually remarkably quick and fun to drive.

Thats just well earned patina Marc! What do ya do to keep the critters at bay that are looking for winter lodging? The B-turd had a mouse house in the trunk with about 100lbs of sunflower seed shells all over. I mean ALL over! Who says animals dont make potty where they sleep? The trunk stunk but they never attacked the inside. Must not have cared for blueberry velour LOL. Never touched a single wire, just the house in the trunk. The windows were cracked open about an inch in a real dry, undisturbed garage Full of junk!
Yeah, getting stuff done to flip the dorf; I like my stuff over medium. I was informed that these guys have a "cult following"... maybe I need to paint a pentagram on the floor around it haha... ws

You take a cheese grater and grate up a bar of Irish Spring soap, (In Europe that would be Fa Original), be sure to vacuum it up in spring and try not to let moisture build up inside the car.
It keeps the car fresh and she likes it too; but the mice absolutely hate the stuff. Use it with the green desiccant pellets and word soon gets out that your vehicle is not habitable. I'm expecting that they'll be in the headliner of the Olds, they don't seem to like the seat foams.

Ive had pretty good luck with peppermint oil on cotton balls placed on a plate on the cars' floor PLUS fabric softener sheets. Th e B-turd is still getting dooshed with Lysol. Ive been keeping the car windows open for a while. It really needed both.
In the shop, I have a 5 gallon bucket 1/4 full with ethylene glycol with a soda can suspended "rolling" on a wire coated with peanut butter. Never found a swimmer yet LOL. Even made the critters a little ladder to get to the high dive. ws
