He listed 5 buick poverty caps for sale. The price was 150.00 and shipping. My responce was "interested any dings dents? Shipping to 44144.I was the first to respond to his ad. Am I wrong here or does this put first waiting for a answer and shipping cost?I go back to look a hour or so later for his answer and the post is deleted.I PM C.Rob about the caps and was told he sold them. This is not the way sales are supposta work here or am I wrong? I was told money talks and I was just interested. Tom

Well interested doesn't mean I will take them, let me know what shipping is.
Any dings or dents? the pictures were so good that many other people wanted them. I believe that when you want to buy something you make a commitment
Not an interest. Now you were provided pictures upfront so any ding and dents is waisting time unless no pictures are provided. You never made a commitment to purchase these items and you were trying to decide if you wanted them. I also asked you 3 times in the post "do you want them" and you did not reply. So you hav no reason to call me any names. It shows your character .

According to the rules Jim has set up, the first person that responds "interested" is first in line. Once they are in line, they have 48 hours to complete the deal-

    As per Jim's rules-

Post a price for the item being offered.

Post a location of the item.

Work with the interested parties to complete the sale, in the order that they showed interest in your item. This interest must be shown with a public reply to your thread, Personal Messages (PM's) or emails are not acceptable communication requirements for "getting in line" to purchase an item. We suggest 48 hours as an acceptable time period to allow interested parties to contact you privately.
If the first user who responds to your ad does not complete the sale, you move onto the second person who responded, and so on and so forth down the list, until the item is sold. This list is dictated soley by the public replies to your ad.

You will not accept other offers or negotiate outside of these guidelines.

You will not refuse to sell the item to anyone, for any reason, unless a moderator or the board administrator is involved and Ok's the denial.

Its unfortunate when stuff like this happens. I'll give C.Rob the benefit of the doubt and think it was just a question of C.Rob not understanding or knowing the rules.

I can also understand the buyer being pissed off about it.

Jason. I don't know what he could'nt have understood.I ask a question and shipping cost. I may be off with my time line and and give him the benefit of doubt here. It may have been more like 1 1/2 hours till I got back to him.

I was told to tone it down. Not happy about it but I can understand where JW is comming from.Like i stated before I got in line with a responce to a for sale post by C.Rob and a question and told him I was interested and shipping costs to 44144. Checked back with in two hours of my original post and the parts were sold and thread deleted.I PM'ed him about the parts and was told monry talks and "interested' means nothing. This guy doesn't follow the board rules and should not be trusted.

    Tom,

I merged your two threads, as it was just the title I had a problem with.

Also, the thread in question is here..

    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=225127

As was stated above, sellers should give any board member, who expresses interest in public, the first option to buy.

C.Rob put in the deletion notes "ebay" which I would take to mean he is listing them on Ebay to sell, which is his right of course.. But after it's on the board only two hours?.. why bother doing the ad?

    David G de-modded....

Looks like he's deleted all his sale ads and is going to Ebay instead.

Tom, I agree with your view on this.

Devon's post makes it clear that Cliff knew the rules. I stand corrected.

I was also PM'ed this thread from the archives with C.Rob which I had all but forgotten about-

I got caught up in the "PM Sent" too. Didn't think it meant "I'm Interested" or anything else. Just posted "I'll take it" and thought it would be over. Nope.

I'll mention something here that I feel is important and one thing that I think I have done in the past ... maybe it happened to C.Rob.

After stating in the thread that I am "interested" in a part, I have carried-on some additional discussions about a part with the Seller via PM's, so the point I am making is that sometimes there are hard points ... like comittments to purchase, etc., that may be communicated in PM's and not actually in the Parts for Sale threads. Right or wrong, I am just saying we would have a fuller picture if we knew what was communicated in both the part thread and a subsequent PM ... and the ultimate point that the discussions should probably be in the threads until the point that a comittment is made and all else is incidental or private (address, etc.). My . 02 cents.

As far as 65gs76limited, I have a set of 4 nice dog dish/poverty caps ... let me know if you want to talk about 'em. We are all Buick guys, here.

There is "swap meet etiquette" at real swap meets and it carries over at V8. To put it in perspective, think of the parts for sale thread as a virtual swap meet. By stating "interested" in the thread, you have essentially picked up the item off the vendors table and are looking it over by asking questions via the thread or PM. The buyer has 48 hours to either buy the part or put it down.

By not following the rules, the part was virtually taken out of 65gs76limited's hands and handed over to the guy next in line. If that happend at a real swap meet, fists would be flying.

I agree with the OP, I've had two less than correct dealings on the board in the past few months. If you post it here you need to follow rules and honor the rules. Parts that are posted shouldn't end up in the hands of e-bay buyers. Ron

I know Tom. Have dealt with him on parts. Nothing but a true gentleman. I can't speak for the other party, but you know what they say about first impressions. Treat others as you'd want to be treated.
