Need some help please, I have a '72 GS 350/350 with a 8.5,10 bolt 3.08, open diff. Can anyone tell me if this rear has c-clips or bolt-in axles, and how many splines? Thanks.
Chevy had c-clips, Buick, Olds and Pontiac were bolt-in axles. If your rear is stock, you have a Buick rear w/28 spline axle shafts.
There are two 12 bolt rears for A-bodies: Olds 12 bolt, 10 bolt carrier, bolt in axles Chevy 12 bolt, 12 bolt carrier, c-clips Best one is 12 bolt Chevy. You can get c-clip eliminators from axle builders for additional strength.
Two ways to tell 1 - look at your axels if they have 2-3 large holes in the end flanges good chance they are a bolt in type of axle if not probalby C Clip style ( you need the holes to acces the bolts on the flange ) :Brow: 2 - Spend the money on fluid and a gasket ( needs to be changed anyway ) and look inside that damn thing :eek2: after all the boys here are good but there X RAY vision is limite to other things Buick p Ken K
