Hey guys I'm striking out on finding the coolant bypass hose for my '71 with a 350 at my local parts stores. Can anyone tell me if this is the correct one by Gates? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Cool...d-Coolant-Hose-Front-GATES-21184/132158658184 Thanks!
Maybe this one by Dayco? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Coolant-Bypass-Hose-Curved-Radiator-Hose-DAYCO-70001-/321031953308 Just wondering if anyone has any advice on which one would be best.
I looked it up on their site and they only list the S shaped ones, I need the 90 degree elbow bend one.
They still sell it on rockauto. http://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/gates,21184,bypass+hose,2155 Sure you have the proper hose and someone else didn't just use what they could find?
Thanks! No, I know it is the L shaped one I need. It looks like O'Reilly does carry it by that part number, they just have a sh***y cross reference inventory since that part did not show up for my car.
Found a listing on parts geek. I have not delt with them. http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1971/buick/skylark/cooling_system/bypass_hose.html
Thanks. I might try my local O'Reilly first since I have the correct Gates part number now. They have very shi**y customer service and only one knowledgeable person there so I have to make sure I go in there with correct part number otherwise they'll order me a heater core when I really needed a heater control valve like they did last week! Idiots! I have to be my own customer service when I go in there.
I do not mean to insult you, but you sure you have a 350? Or could someone else changed some parts? The only thing I have found a 90 degree bypass hose for is 6.6L and 7.5L engines. 68 400 cid --- http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...id+v8,1494165,cooling+system,bypass+hose,2155 71 455 cid --- http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...id+v8,1441309,cooling+system,bypass+hose,2155 71 350 cid --- http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...id+v8,1023006,cooling+system,bypass+hose,2155 just trying to help. ( post some pics if you can)

Idiots! I have to be my own customer service when I go in there. It could be the manifold since that is aftermarket d'oh! Didn't think of that. I'll post pics when I can, later tonight.
I have an aftermarket manifold the previous owner installed. I recently had the AC system installed (I'll post my story on that in another thread later). I had a mechanic do the AC system since I didn't have time and didn't want to put the time into doing all that but he replaced my bypass hose with the one in the pic. You can't tell too much but its pinched. Water still flows but I'm not comfortable with it. Wondering if I cut it if it will relieve that pinched part? I haven't cut it yet as I'm not sure if that will solve the problem or create another one, i.e. cut hose won't reach.
So maybe that IS the "S" shaped one now that I think of it? I don't know, either way I'm looking for suggestions on how to fix that pinched part. Thanks!
Easy fix...just replace it with the correct molded S shaped part. There were only 2 aftermarket cast manifolds, now 3, (and some custom sheet metal intakes) for the 350 Buick, and they all used the stock S shaped hose setup.
Thanks for the info, at least now I know I can go with the Gates 21184 hose. I didn't want to cut this one and it doesn't fit or does fit but gets completely pinched off, its my daily driver so I can't afford to stay off the road for very long.
I'm an idiot, this whole time it ended up being the S hose. I cut one end off and it seemed to relieve the pinch in the hose but I'll have to cut the other end shorter and hope that relieves the rest of the pinched part.
