Pulled the backseat out of my 68 GS400 conv today
looking for the buildsheet, couldnt find it.
Was Buick known for putting them on top of the gas
tank too like some other GMs ?

Where is the vin stamped on the front of the motors
    for the same car ?

    thanks

I found build sheets under the rear seat and on top of the gas tank in my former '71 Buick.

I've looked in all the usual places for mine except under or inside the front seats. Still haven't found it.

I found the build sheet in my 67 GS 400 inside the left rear quarter panel when I took off the interior trim panel to fix a window handle mechanism. Try looking there ...

Buick never intented to leave the build sheets in the cars, lazy assembly workers left them there.
(Mine was on top of the petrol tank)

I was lucky, on my 70 Boss 302 Mustang, not only did I find
my factory buildsheet, but I also found a Quaility Control
    inspection paper too.
Apparently, every so often a car was randomly picked on the
assembly line to get a quaility control inspection.
My Boss was one of those cars and I have the docs to match it
up. They nit picked every little area of the car.
It was a nice suprise :)

It will also depend on which plant your car was assembled at. Our '72 that was built in Fremont had 3 in the interior: one folded in 1/2 under the drivers bucket seat, one under the cardboard on top of the rear package shelf by the rear window, and a third one under the lower rear seat.

There may still be one on top of the gas tank but we have not dropped it down yet. We found one on top of the gas tank on our '72 that was built at Flint.

    Good luck with the search
