Wondering what I’ll be expecting for a bill in spring. Having following items installed on a new\ rebuilt 350 in the car. New heads New ta cam New carb New ta manifold New headers Thoughts?
Around here shops are about $100 an hour, it all depends on how long it takes... broken bolts, measuring for pushrods etc there are a lot of things that could slow things down. What is the shop rate per hour?
It’s around 100$ per hr. Haven’t discussed really money aspects of doing it with shop I was planning on using. Was more concerned could they do it. My guy is fantastic mech and maintains owns a serious at kit window Vette but as I’ve leaned it’s a diff animal with buicks. Yeah its all bolt in stuff other then cam instal and milled heads as far as push rods so I’m kinda wondering.
I suggest using PB blaster to soak into all the bolts you are going to remove and that will help a lot... Also get a full gasket kit, timing chain set, adjustable oil pressure regulator, and oil pump rebuild kit and do it right the first time.
Has adjustable oil pressure regulator. Name begins with M that escapes me at this moment. I will do .20 head gasket. Engine has 4800 miles roughly.
I’m going to get upward of 1500-2000. Complete top end plus headers. Cam break in/ matched springs? Plus tuning a carb? Or is it a quality built Quadrajet? And if it’s a 2 barrel engine, you may need a 4 barrel accelorater cable. No distributer recurve? While heads are off, have piston depth measured. Calculate compression. So you can confirm cam matches needed compression so your not chasing a loss of power issue
Has new built to car Qjet. TA stage one springs matched to a TA 112 Cam. I’m in lower compression side so didn’t want to over cam. Heads are ported and milled .20, in attempt to raise comp slightly. Has a HEI ignition. It’s a four barrel 350 four speed 68 Skylark. Was three on floor. Swapped to a 4. Stock rear end. Close ratio trans.
Thanks man. I hope i listened and research the forums enough. Car has 41k orig miles and was column 3 speed factory. I feel it’s well worth so more giddy up.
Agree! However my garage I’m building for the car will not be ready in time. I’ve wrenched many chevys and motorcycles. Little info about me,, I’m a trooper and on a separate unit inside the job. My time is limited. I can’t justify days off and not being wt famiky. Just isn’t in the cards. Rather drive then screw it up and spend several weeks down time fixing when all i wanna do is drive it. No offense taken.
