... my girlfriend have been telling me for 4-years now, how her Daddy (may he rest in peace) LOVED BUICKS. Hell, she even went on to explain how it sounded when we were outside or on Youtube with a car as the focal point ... like a base/good-exhaust Buick 350-455 to ME. She even has mentioned also how her Daddy ... could NOT handle the Buick; it's speed.

My point is this; today she located a pic her sister posted on Facebook ... with her Grandma (R.I.P.), and her sister standing in front of "Papi's Buick".

My girl knows nada about the Buick ... she KNOW I LOOOOVE SKYLARKS, however had no clue her Daddy drove the family in HIS.

I noticed the '69 body with non-Buick Skylark wheels(?), and a 1970 Buick Skylark grille. Today is the 1st time I ever saw this photo.

    Chris, that picture is precious!

I'm another who can thank my girlfriend's family for my introduction to Buicks, even when my father was an engineer at Buick City.

In '83, my girlfriend and her sister shared a 1967 Buick Electra 2dr. Her dad thought a big car would make his daughters safe.

She picked me up one time and when I sat down my knees were up against the dash because she was so small. I was in the passenger seat and went through the glove box after she had hit the gas and pulled in front of some traffic much faster than she had a right to, and the car put me back in the seat. I read the manual and saw the 360 hp number and it made sense.

We broke up in high school and I bought the car from her mother, my ex-girlfriend was upset as we'd broken up but her mother made her clean out the car for the sale.

I modded the Electra as best I could, got some 14 second 1/4 mile times with the 430 and a 2.78:1 gear.

Fast forward to college. Met again and dated her again, broke up again when she left for grad school. Crashed the Electra in a fit of rage and bad timing from someone pulling out in front of me.

Found the Wildcat in '91 and put as much of the Electra parts into it as possible.

She came back to MI after I'd married and divorced as had she.

    Fast forward......

We married in '07 and to date she says she's in it for the car. She's happy to call it "her car" but isn't so happy about my modifications since the old days. She still loves to go for spirited rides and we love to joke about the history of the Wildcat with the Electra interior we enjoyed together after all this time.

So yes, it was hers. I was a Pontiac guy until the cute, short blonde took me home from school in the '67 Electra back in high school. I was doomed then and I'm happy to say I wouldn't change a thing! We are happily married and all is well. We've enjoyed our friendship over all those years and we are enjoying life.

  3. I was going to post something very, very dull in comparison to this, but I will not bother :TU: now. Great story, Devon!

It would be the last straw if I had a girlfriend who had buick ties.

    My wife would kill me!
