I noticed my oil pan has a small leak and I was wondering if the pan gasket can be changed with the engine in the car. I searched the web and only found info on a chevelle with a sbc. I was hoping it could be done. Any info will help. Thanks guys

You should be able to do that . You will need to lift engine up off engine mounts. I would not jack up engine by crankshaft or balancer. Use a engine hoist.

I’ve done it without raising the engine, raising the engine does make it easier tho

Yeah knowing that raising the engine helps I’m going to do the engine mounts at the same time since they could be from 1969

You may have to rotate the crank to clear the throws (counterweights). If you raise the motor with a hoist or a floor jack and a block of wood under the front pan lip which is what I did. Put 2x4’s on each side of the motor and lower it to rest on the wood. Seals can fail, though it never happened to me. Good luck!

After you get the pan off lay it on a flat surface and ensure it’s not warped. Be sure to follow the torque sequence and foot pounds when you bolt it back up.

I finally got to the oil pan gasket today. It wasn’t too bad, hoisted the engine up a little, changed the gasket and did the motor mounts.
