I think they use a formula based on size to even out the scoring . average tq/hp , top tq/hp , divided by cubes x something . that's a guess obviously . the cylinder head and intake rules vary but with the sp3 intake out , aluminum heads "close" it could be feasible maybe . plus there is the vintage class . can't remember what the cutoff years are . I have followed that since inception , trial and error , innovation , prep and testing are key if you don't have a sbc , LS , rat or ford . can't just throw parts together .
Ls, coyote, and vintage big block seems to be the classes available. Not anything small block that i see
Looks like they have different classes each year. Pretty sure alum heads are OK. Most had them in the 2018 competition per Hot Rod Mag.
Unless I was reading the wrong rules for the "older iron" class or whatever it is, they must use production iron heads
What’s wrong with that. Doesn’t say you cant move valves away from each other to cram a 2.0/1.6 valve into your heads. Flowing atleast 265/200
and I think , my opinion anyway , PHR did a better job covering the event . HR is kinda one issue , 5-6 pages . of course they are "big time" . a million things to cover . PHR usually gave it a big spread in a couple issues plus covered some individual buildups from the comp .
I remember reading honorable mention every year to mike phillips and his buick builds. He never had a failure. He usually got atleast a page himself
