Yes, and you to can go faster and get more power just by sitting at your computer and for a low price of 39.95 I can set you up too to go even faster than ever before just send your money to.....o_O

Years ago I had a desk top dyno on floppy disc, I didn't know a whole lot about trying to make power, hell Im still learning:rolleyes:
I believe those programs are "theoretical" cause I could make stupid power with stupid huge combos and knowing full well that it isn't feasible, all it is, is a computation of numbers.
THE TRACK TELLS THE TRUTH, plain and simple:cool:
Its all about how much weight that engine has to pull, the gearing, (mechanical advantage) weather conditions, fuel, spark, driver skill (Im lacking that, LOL)
    Computers and programs aren't reality:(

Car craft did some testing on it when it first came out 20 yrs ago. I have the article somewhere. It was about spot on. However it's only as valuable as the info you put into it.. you need a flow sheet, know your actual compression, cam specs and where it's installed. Garbage in= garbage out.

I guess math doesn't work since we sent a man to the moon and we are able to fly. I guess dynos are stupid too because the track never lies. I guess all those no prep, pro Stock, NASCAR, and the like.. are all stupid too, huh?

    You guys are the best!

We have a saying at work when using certain software to model/calculate. "Garbage in=garbage out". It's only as accurate as what info you give it. And even then I have to believe there's a pretty wide acceptable standard deviation. But at the end of the day, it's all algorithms based on past learnings/theories.

will the desk top dyno tell you when the track sucks or when your tires are worn or your suspension sucks or your driving skills suck or you forgot to add oil to the engine, etc, etc.....:D OR how about learning to build an engine the proper way...……..

The quotes are not going against the ability of the Desk Top Dyno doing it's job correctly. It's a stab about using this to "build a motor" instead of really building one we have been seeing this for years now with this 350 and hardly anyone is building one.

The only thing going on here is typing about one. The quote that comes to mind here is "Keyboard Racers"

Oh I know now that we have the heads everyone is going to build one.

What was stopping anyone from porting out those iron heads all of these years Heck mine is 25 years old now where the heck are all the other 350 guys building one of these things and going out on a limb to be different like I did.

and what about allll that testing I keep hearing about here with ported and power adders and such... non existent.

I at least went out on a limb and showed you can run a 125 shot nitrous on this motor with 73 stock rods with a good oiling system with forged pistons bang at 6 grand and the motor will stay together. Who else out there has done that.

So I take it with these Aluminum heads out there everyone is going to buy a set and meet me at the track.

My Desktop Dyno is Under The Hood.

What stopped people from porting out iron heads? I don't have money laying around for a car I drive on weekends for 6 months of the year, more like what's stopped people building a Buick 350. You can thank Chevy (car) craft, hot rod, and other magazines for decades of preaching build a chevy 350. And thank them for preaching everything LS for today and years to come. I m 29, I have kids all under 6 currently and yes my wife and i take the car A Lot here and there ( I'm glad my AC works),I have been laid off years back in recession of 2009, I got married in 2012, I m paying on a house and trying to decide if buying my dad's 160 acre farm is the right thing to do in the next few years.
You know why I didn't port my heads cause cause I don't have money or the knowledge on how. Let a lone the machine shop that checked the heads over mess up and I didn't know, I took for granted it was right. The valve spring retainer was hitting the valve seal wearing the cams out and sending metal through the engine. In the end it cost me 3 cams, 3 lifter sets, gaskets, 2 cranks, bearings, lots of wasted money and huge fight between my wife and I because I didn't want the car to sit and collect dust in the corner of my garage for years to come. You know not everyone can whip out money on a dime with no effect. My house and my family are more important than my car. Some criticize about people buying heads, guess what The paint is flaking on my car and I don't know what to do cause I don't have money to repaint it. Remember no situation is the same between you and I. I think if they really want a boost in sales and make sure they sell then go to Summit or Jegs to sell products Lots of people go to them for things and I bet over 95% of people here has shopped at either one.Another possibility is maybe talk to Hot Rod about doing an Article on the new heads and products available for Buick. It might come natural some to go to the forum for things that are out or how to. But remember not everyone knows of the V8 Buick forum OR of TA performance, especially if they are just getting started I know I was once that guy. Josh Sorry for my super long response
Edit: if I had the money I would buy those heads and intake to go with. My worry is by that time I want to buy TA perf. may say " there is not enough demand so we're not making anymore". That's in the back of my mind.

Gee I don't have a pile of cash either. It took from 1988 to 1994 to get the car painted and and get a motor under the hood.

I even got laid off from my trade and went to school for a while and also missed a whole years worth of wages. Plus I had to start with low pay in my field until I just recently got back most of the pay I lost 10 years ago.

Porting the heads is cheaper than buying a new set or maybe learn how to do it yourself.

It took me 3 years to buy the parts and get the motor put together.

If you have all that going on with kids and house and such why gripe at me about no one porting heads looks like you already have your priority at hand and that is what you have to do.

I got 1 Buick and it is not nothing special it is just a Skylark so there is no pile of cash in this department.

We all have our share of life’s ups and downs. As long as we stay focused on the end game we’ll get there. I’ve had my car 20 years finally got to building a motor. (mostly because I was waiting for the aluminum heads) It’s now a joint adventure with my youngest son, after all it’s going to be his. As it is he drives it more than me lol

I'm not griping I didn't want to risk screwing them up and my car runs and drives and definitely nothing special considering it's an 84' regal not a national or clone , at most car shows you might as well say it doesn't exist. I'm defending myself considering the fact that the phrase "keyboard racers", "wannabe's" and other terms have been used. Believe it or not I know those types of people I work with a few that talk the talk but don't walk the walk, but not everyone is like that. And piling parts I did that too I drove my regal with the n/a v6 for 2-3 yrs. And built the 350 aside, I'm not saying you or others have pile cash just sitting there,I'm saying everyone has a story on how the car or engine got to it's point. Like me it's family, some might have no kids or they are graduated, retired, race, ran out of money, health. I'm just saying before criticize. In the end i'm not trying to start something and neither are you. A company put a lot on the line us Buick lovers unfortunately there is not enough out there in my opinion. When I pop the hood on my car countless people say why a Buick?and not a LS there cheap and I just shake my head.

I for one would of never attempted to port heads. Even though I had a spare set to mess with. Sometimes you have to let the people with the knowledge do the work for you. It usually turns out better in the long run.

Josh. Keep the faith and the fight. :)

If some (Buick) folks, would help rather than try and top others in every unimportant thing, folks like you could avoid the lost time and resources as well as the "love" such as you did with 3 rebuilds.

Buick folks choose Buick because most are not "also ran" type folks. Most are very individual in tastes and personality, and I have always preferred that to the "same old same old" crowds in whatever hobby.

Hope you get a little extra and are able to stretch out your Buick a little more to your liking.

Unless folks put in money, time or effort towards these heads, they really are owed nothing.

To expect more is disingenuous to those who have put forth.

(And only a single BBB build in the works, but I spent nearly 96% of the money on this build with TA, even things I could source elsewhere at less cost, because I believe in what they do for the Buick world and a few extra dollars don't hurt me, but helps them.)

Let's all compete on the track, car shows and the like, and help others anyway we are able as the the majority does.

    :)

    josh,
a few of us have been down the spiral staircase and had to start over with everything. but we got thru it. just coasting now.
my 350 has been a r&d project from day 1. the 'banker' has budgets for me most of the time.
semi-retired and coasting now but the 350 project hasn't stopped.

Guys I got what your saying, mine hasn't stopped, I do small things I can afford each year without pissing off the misses and if money is there. This year it was bumper fillers. Crazy thing is I live 1 mile from the drag strip and never been there. It's either family stuff or busy with other things. And I think 1 day just to see what the car would do. I'm near Earlville, IA Tri-state Raceway I think 1 of 7 Pavement strips in the USA. Back in 2009 when I bought the car I was going to be like A Lot of of others buy SBC 350 and be done. Now I'm glad I didn't because it's so over used. I like popping hood and showing a Buick in Buick.I want to keep the car alive my dad is 63 and has 1971 Camaro RS, has had it since he was 19. Between buying the farm in the late 70 early 80s and raising 5 boys that car still sits and hasn't moved in 20yrs aleast it's in a garage I have been pushing to get it back on the road.
