did any one see the new hot rod magazine, they tell how to build up a 300 buick. they get 349 cubes and 390 hp and 422 lbs. they use a 340/350 crank and 307 olds pistons.

Just got mine out of the mailbox 10 minutes ago. Can't wait to read it. Maybe I'll keep the 300 after all.

Technically it's a small block, not a nailhead.

I read the article and all I could think about was how to take a second on the house and have one of those built for me!

They referenced upgrading to rover heads, what year/engine rover were they referencing?

I've wondered if having the intake extrud honed would help out, along with the 100 hours of head work that was done.

This looks like a great option instead of going the big block route.

    it was great reading.
i think going with rover heads is too much. over kill. then you need a different intake.they said the way they did the stock heads they were good up to 425 hp.heads flowed 206cfm at 500 lift, that could be over kill too with 100 hours..whats wrong with getting 350-375 hp out of these engines and have less money in them.stock they were only rated at only 250hp,most of the time factory ratings were overstated anyways.the build they talk about would be good for any nailhead engine too.

I wonder if you could get more cubes out of it by using the slimmer honda rods you can get forged H beams rods for cheap in lenghts of 5.7 to 6.400

longer rods wont get you any more cubes. it could give you a better rod ratio, stock is 2 inch rod journals

yea i know it wont, but should beable to offset grind the crank more while not haveing cam to rod interference

Now they need to hire Doc to do an article over the 425.

I'm Thinking the buick 300 is actually stonger then the 350 due to it being heavier 467lbs 65-67 300 compared to 450lbs 68-81 350

like you said has things going for it...interchanged with more sbb/rover parts..
which means hello AL heads and s/p intake and probably retrofitted fuel injection

with Doc, and Walt doing tech and research and Tom T. doing the wrenching. the chevys wouldn't have a chance.

Add Bob to the list (Gransportsedan). He's been researching his project for over a year. His 300 turbo is going to open a lot of eyes to what a 300 is capable of. :bglasses:
