I like chassis saver better than POR 15. If you plan on driving your car the problem with powder coat is when it develops a crack or rock chip.
A little tip for chassis saver users that I got from the guys at magnet paints, the manufacturer. When you open it pour it in to a mason jar or something similar vs the can. Use Saran Wrap over the lid so it can't stick and store it in the fridge. I learned all this after they sent me a new can with the lid painted shut. I had to destroy the lid to get it open! Jar is the way to go! And they sent me a free can.....
I'm not a huge POR15 fan. It gets so hard that an impact can crack it and then you get moisture in there. I really like Zero Rust and I've used it on all of my undercarriage as well as the engine compartment. It sprays on from a can, or you can buy a quart and use a gun. Comes out semi flat but not exactly like chassis black.
"Zero Rust® is free from lead and isocyanates" Jon - do you top coat it? Is it intended as a primer?
ZR can be top coated. I'm told it will fade over the years. However I have sprayed it on over 5 years ago and it looks fine. That being said, those parts are sitting inside a climate controlled shop so they don't get any UV rays to fade them out. You can use it to spray or brush inside your door to keep all that rust away. It isn't a miracle paint, but it is simple, easy to clean up, looks good and the owner of the Autobodystore.com swears by the stuff.
X2 on wearing gloves! If it gets on your skin it has to wear off. I did a frame in POR and top coated it with the UV topcoat they recommend and it turned out pretty well, but it still got a little chalky after sitting in the sun all summer. Also was not as durable on the smooth areas that I missed with the sand blaster.
