I was there and heard about it later on last year.

It was all the old guys out there drinking beer and getting rowdy! :spank: The youngsters, like me, were all nestled all snug in our beds!

Did something happen again this year???

Yeah, that was me, all of 40
Somehow, legend has it that I tried to offer the cop my beer! I swear it's not true!

No, no cops this year. We were driven in by the rain at midnight. If it weren't for that, who knows what might have happened....

No buick ran in the shoot out it was canceled due to rain during the first round of eliminations. We may be having another event in the early fall so keep your ears and eyes open.... :bglasses:

Sorry Dee!!! i'm just glad you raced. If Mark got 13.1 out of that car, i know you wouldve won, the best of the day was a 13.50 and that run was a 13.8, i spun quite a bit off the line. I wasnt comfortable doing a burnout in a slick tired car with no safety loop and my dad watching! after all, its his car and i kept getting nervous because the rear of the car would slide to the left. I still think it has a few more tenths in it though, the track was kind of slick all day, best 60' foot was a 1.9 for us, HORRIBLE on slicks....

Unless the 13.1 was a time that Mark made in his TTA, I'm pretty sure the car has run that. If it doesn't get well into the 13's, I'll just have to ask him about it! :Brow:

I was nervous on the first run because the track was so slick last year, the car was dying last year, etc. etc. Thus the 14.4 best time this year! :Smarty:

No excuses next time for me. I better get the car running right, or I won't get to race! :spank:

I'm starting to feel comfortable about the car now. I'm just use to racing my old Skylark and Z28. Both were 14-15 second cars. Slow, but fun! :beer

Did you and your dad head home or did you stay the night. I didn't see you at the motel.

We convoyed out with Rick and Rob and Mitch, got home and got the gs back in the garage by 9:30. If my dad has a choice, he drives home to sleep in his own bed! The gs's motor is basically stock, slight cam, poston headers, Qjet from poston, flowmaster American Thunder exhaust with h-pipe, it put 275rwhp and 360 rwtq down on the dyno day. It still moves that HEAVY convertible down the track pretty darn quickly!

    Dan,
Was great getting to meet you and a lot of other great folks. Really enjoyed talking about the '66's. Hopefully we can both have the 66's at one of the future events!

BTW, that's one great looking Stage 1 convertible!

    Just in case anyone cares...

Went to test and tune yesterday. Nothing touched, the car ran a 9.37 1/8th (Best 1/8th in Temple was 9.26). Then I pulled out the small-body HEI and dropped in a regular junkyard HEI. Dropped to 8.95, and with a little cool down and a smidge more timing, 8.84.
Got to figure out why that small-body HEI isn't working... Regular HEI is :moonu: -ugly (IMHO)

I replaced the module in mine before going to Temple and it made a world of difference.

One reason I thought I was going to :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: when I did get to go down the track!

Well, in December I went 8.80s with the big HEI. Took the module out of that and put it in the small HEI when it went back in. Put another (used) module in the big HEI this past weekend and went 8.84, so I don't think it is the module (?)
Coil is a brand new Accel 8120 (or whatever is is that IgnitionMan Dave recommends).
Next time I get to test and tune I may put the small HEI back in and try swapping coils. That will probably be in BG. I promised myself that if I got it back in the 8.80s I wouldn't mess with it till then! Hope to get in some successful bracket racing in the meantime.

I wouldn't think modules make THAT big a difference, aren't they really just transistorized switches, they either work or fail completely?

I'd compare the spark advance curves of the two distributors, I'd think there's your difference more so than in the coil, especially if you were using a new one...

    Dee -

Before you replace the fuel pump, make sure the tank sock is not plugged. this is a VERY commong problem.

There is a nylon fabric sock over the end of the fuel pickup in the gas tank. These things eventually plug up, collapse, or just disintegrate. You'll typically have a high speed fuel starvation problem.

A temporary fix (or just a way to trouble shoot) is to remove the gas cap, remove the fuel line at the pump, and use low pressure compressed air to blow back through the line. Keep it to 15-20 PSI, put the line back on and try it. I did this a couple time on my car and it gave me back the top end. The real fix, though, is to drop the tank, pull the pickup, and cut the sock off.

Check this out befor you do a fuel pump - its a PITA to swap the pump and still have the problem.

Modules are a funny thing. I've generally heard that they work or they don't. There are folks who say that GM modules are no good over 4000rpm, but I don't really buy that. The module in question in Standard brand, and like I said it worked fine in the big HEI, so I'm pretty much ruling that out.

Both distributors have had the curve optimized, and maximum timing advance was set at 34 on both at installation. As a matter of fact, I used the same springs in both. So, I don't think it's a curve difference.
    More ideas welcome...
