We had a good turnout at Little River even though the weather was gray and gloomy. Everyone got a chance to get a few runs in before racing started. One round was completed or nearly complete when the racing was suspended by rainfall. The track was trying to dry the racing surface as I left around dark.

I'm not sure if racing resumed.

Here are a couple of pics- perhaps someone could post some more...

We had a blast! I'll post our pics as soon as I get the film developed.

1st run of my life: 1.5 reaction time  , 18.6 at 82mph, spinning one tire halfway down the track :Dou: :Dou: :Dou:
    2nd run: 1.02 reaction time, 16.5 at 84mph
3rd (best and last) run: .85 reaction time, 16.2 at 85.5mph. (I'm learning... )

How's that for a 150,000 mile 350 in a 5,000 lb pegleg car? I'm happy, I had a blast putting faces to usernames, meeting Buick folks, seeing some cool cars (LOVE the Turbo 6 - powered Rambler!!! :TU: ), and finally seeing what my old 2NABOT would do. I never dreamed that I'd have such problems with traction!!! After three runs, I was still losing time to wheelspin at the beginning  . I'd swear that the car hooks up better on the street, but surely that can't be true. Either way, I'm not washing the rubber off of the quarter panels for at least a week.

The wobble-head dog on my dash could become addicted to this sort of activity.... :Brow:

    northcorner Guess what I'm thinking..

hello Frank and James. I didn't meet you two at the track, but i DID notice your cars there. I really liked that red 'vert Frank, very clean ride. I loved it!. I noticed the 2NABOT a couple of different times. I never would have guessed that was a 350 car. Once it hooked up, it really took off! I sure thoughe it was a big block the way it hauled a*s down the track. I wish i could have watched more of you guys, but i was concentrated on trying to get down the track myself..lol. I was one of the "outsiders" with a Chebby truck, but Buick powered  . Also James, i think you raced a buddy of mine in a red '65 Chevy truck. He raved on about how good your car ran. It's all good fun for us. It's ashamed it couldn't have lasted longer than it did.
I'd also like to thank Phil Green for all his work to make this event happen. We had a REAL BLAST!! Maybe we can get to the track earlier next year to meet all you guys, and put faces to names :beer .

Had a blast watching you guys for the short time I was there. Northcorner, your truck is a real sleeper. Looked like it was just pulled out of the barn, but man did it scream!! Also loved the tubbed BBB cheby pickup.

Lots of sweet GS's and Grand Nationals to ogle. Looking forward to next years event. Cudos to Phil and whoever else may have helped for all the effort involved in putting together this event!!

Believe it. My car wont hardly squeak the tires on the street, but can be a beast at the track. My first trip out to Temple years ago (granted it was freezing) netted an 18.5 on my first run. It was like I was still sitting in the water box. Two runs later it ran a 13.7 by going super light on the throttle out of the hole.

    Ben :) :)

I forgot to mention that I took a lot of pictures. So, should have some good ones to scan and post once I get them developed.

Yeah--Big thumbs up to Phil Green, David Newton and Frank Brooks(and everyone else that helped out) for putting in the effort for this event again!!

Also--all of you that traveled from Houston , D/FW, Abilene, OK, etc--thanks for making the effort to get there, even in the face of not-so-great weather. I think all the locals were somewhat astonished to pull in and see a sea of Black Turbo cars and other Buicks waiting to victimize them.

Nick Sloop gets the "I don't care what it takes I am going to the BrandX Bash" award!!! :TU:

That LeSabre is a cool looking car James.

    Thanks again. Patton

    Hey Ben.

Are you the guy I met that has had the same problem with his car that I've been having? I'm VERY bad with names. :Dou:

Hope everyone made it home okay. I think Nick should also get the persistance award for having to work so hard to get home!!! :TU:

    Nick's hard luck, part one

On Friday I went to change the trans pan gasket, which has been leaking forever. Found unpleasant "bits" in the trans pan. Called up Mike Kurtz at Century Transmission and he said bring it on over, so I got Steve Campbell (gsman66) and Steve Daniel (deweylittle) over to help pull the trans. Got it to Kurtz's shop and one intermediate sprag later I had a fixed tranny. Got it bolted behind the motor at 6:00 pm when the first cancel notice came over the e-mail. Quit for the night.
Got up at 5:00 Saturday and got it finished up, while watching the weather and collecting reports from the guys on the road. Finally decided to go at noon, and got to the track at 3:30, in time for one TT and 1 elimination round (loss). Coughed up my $5 for a buyback, but we were rained out.

I was hoping in a way that it would get rained out so I could make it. But oh well. Maybe we can try to have an informal get together later. Glad everyone had a good time. :3gears:

    Nick's hard luck, part two

Car ran like doo doo, 14.55. Seemed like a problem in second gear, but I have since looked at the time slips more closely, and the car is about 5% slow in each segment of the quarter, so it's not a transmission problem.
After a nice night of socializing got to bed at midnight. Started the car Sunday morning to go to breakfast and heard a funny growl. Water pump. After breakfast JR Wills led the expedition in search of a pump, and we ended up finding one at the Advance warehouse that opened at 1:00. (I've NEVER seen a parts warehouse open on Sunday. Thanks heavens for small miracles!)
Dee and Jeff hung around and assisted with the swap, and I was on the way home at a cool 180 degrees at 2:00.
    Great weekend!

Yeah, that was me. At least, I have a problem that seems awefully similar to the one you are having. Runs perfect on the street, but the combination of doing a burnout and running the quarter at the track causes it to run out of fuel. I put on a fuel pressure guage and it drops down to 1-2 psi at full throttle. Not good.

It seems from reading threads that the Buick Stage 1 replacement pump is good for up to low 12s. That would be a relatively low cost (about $50) thing for you to try. Some people also restrict the return line, so you may need to do that as well.

Unfortunately, us Olds guys do not have a good mechanical pump on the market as of yet, so I will likely be upgrading with an electric pump and 1/2" line.

I wanted to make sure who I was talking to about my problem, so if I get mine fixed, I can pass on my solution and possibly help you out too.

I talked to so many people Saturday, it's hard for me to remember who I was talking to about what! :Do No:

Once I get a new pump on it and take it out to the track, I'll let you know if it helped or not. :TU:

Did we ever find out who the Camaro belonged to that hit the wall after we all left? It wasn't the red one in the pictures, was it?

No, I don't think it was that one. Someone said it was a darker car, maybe black.

Great Pictures Phil. Thanks for getting that one of me off the line. Whew that was fun. New quickest ET: 15.09 @ 91. Man, I need posi in the car!!! I can't wait to hit 14's!
Even with the rain, still had a great time. :beer

Yup, it's pretty bad when it's spinning so much that the trans shifts up into 3rd...

So what's up with that, are street tires just not soft enough for the VHT/rubber to grab, they need rough asphalt?

The other thing I noticed was that on the street, the right tire is ALWAYS the one to spin, and on the track the LEFT was the one spinning and throwing rubber all over the quarter panel. ??? :Do No: ???

Thanks, Northcorner! I had a blast getting some real numbers on the car. I've got a 455 in the garage, prolly have it in there by next year's Bash. I thought that was you with the 455-powered pickup, but like you, I was a bit pre-occupied, lol.
Yup, I ran the red pickup - or should I say he ran away from me! Nice truck, but ask him if he could get some better mufflers, 'cause I couldn't hear a thing after his burnout! :Brow:

Thanks for the kind words, Patton, I missed meeting you! :error:

Glad you made it home OK, Nick. Sounds like you need to up your offerings to the underhood gods...raked your knuckles and bled all over your engine lately?  Seriously, at least you had fellow Buick people around to help out - Hooray, Dee!!! :TU:

Jarrod, that's one sweet '67, thanks for bringing it! Still can't believe it's under 30K miles - what a find! :beer

Hat's Off to Phil and all the Sponsors!!! :TU: :TU: :TU:

(Hey, speaking of getting there earlier, is there any way we could start going down the track any sooner than 2:30? :Do No: just wondering...And I need to either bring notes on who is who on the internet, or get some nametags - "Hello, My Online Name Is: jamyers" )

I'm in loooove with Jarrod's car. If he will look closely, he'll probably see my drool marks all over it. It was nice being parked next to it all day and at the motel. :TU:
