For a 70 455 convert with disc brakes I hear a clunk from the front passenger side when quickly pressing the brake pedal while in motion. I removed the wheel and everything appears tight, including the suspension and the caliper. (I did not remove the caliper.) There is no grinding like a broken or worn out brake pad might make and the rotors are smooth. What are your thoughts on the cause? ( I do not see any bushings missing.)

Check and make sure the battery is bolted down tight - see if anything else is loose under the hood. How are the control arm bushings (at the frame)?

I would also check the front sway bar mountings if equipped with one. Battery is also a possibility.

I had already checked the battery hold down and the sway bar bushings. I am going to look closer at the control arms.

    JIm,

Check that the outer pad is tight. They have 2 ears at the top that are supposed to be bent over to hold the pad tight in the caliper.

To do this I use a large pair of channel lock pliers. You can also wedge a large screwdriver under the pad and use a hammer to tap the ears down.

The pad should have no movement.
