I went to pick my cousin up at the airport yesterday and I noticed that the brake pedal felt kinda mushy and wasn't as firm as it usually is, I looked at the dash and noticed the brake light was on. I thought my brakes were gonna go out, so I pressed the pedal a little harder and then the light went out and the brakes felt fine. What gives? I don't think I'm low on fluid. Could there be air in the brake lines or something? It's a 1976 Electra and the car has front discs and rear drums. Thanksaplenty

Check the fluid level first. You may have a leak. The light goes on when it detects a pressure difference between the front and rear. If the fluid level is OK, you probably have a master cylinder that's starting to go.
