I've been advised that when converting to disc brakes from drums using the scarebird bracket that early style factory rims will not clear the calipers.

In the event you want factory mags you should use a later set of disc mags that have the necessary clearance.

A quick way to check is by laying the wheel upside down on the floor. If the center rests on the floor it is a disc mag. If the outside rests on the floor it is the earlier drum style. Ian

    Ian,
Just wondering who advised you of this? I emailed Scarebird about this before I bought the brackets last summer, and he replied that he didn't think they would fit the factory drum wheels.

But they fit on my car with lots of room. This is the smaller 11 inch rotor set up for '65-'70 big cars. I don't remember how much clearance I had exactly, but the original steel hubcap type wheels fit fine. I also tried a later, unknown vintage Buick rally wheel (not the correct '65 wheel) and it fit too. This rally wheel was on the parts car I've got and you can see marks on the inside of the wheel where it was just kissing the fins on the drums.

I don't know about wheel fit with the other set ups that use 12 inch rotors, but this is not an issue on my car.

On my 72 GS, when I converted to Disc the 14in Ralleys wouldn't fit. I'm not sure what year the rims were or the Brake setup as it was from a junk yard (already removed).
