  2. :eek2: Gee Dale, they only want $275 opening bid... do you think anyone will bite? That reminds me, I need to go home to the farm and remove some alum drums before winter sets in. I was going to this week, but a new puppy in the house put a damper on that trip.

Oh yeah! I bet they'll go upwards of $800.00?
Maybe? I'm gonna watch this one.
Theres some people out there with deep pockets thats for sure.

That is a cute little guy you got. To bad they can't stay that way.
Well, unless your a hunter, then if he stayed a puppy he would be pretty worthless to you.

I'm thinking about bidding on them. The ones I have on my 67 Riv GS are on their last legs. Anybody know of any other source for these?

  5. Are you serious?? Have you seen 'em go in that range? Must be a BIG Buick issue...

no no no no no no noooo.... cute and cuddly...yes. Also destructive, mischievous, MESSY, stubborn, pig-headed... but also among the smartest breeds you could have. They really are much like having a baby, at least for the first few months, until they develop good bladder control, and can go thru the night(and day) without needing to go outside. By the time our Dante was a year old, he could be left loose in the house for hours, and wouldn't touch anything that wasn't his. If fact when he was about 2 we left Christmas cookies on the table at his nose level, within reach, for an afternoon by himself, and he didn't touch one. We didn't even give it a 2nd thought beforehand either. Labs are such intelligent dogs if you take the time to teach them all that they are willing to learn. I haven't hunted since HS/college days, so we won't have any hunting dogs...I much prefer a 90# lap dog. :TU: Oops, sorry for rambling off topic! :error:

    David,
I've seen used ones fetch $300.00 a pair.

I always keep my eyes open for them at salvage yards etc.
Most of them I find are beyond help though.
I'd also love to have these for my '70.
But I'm just going to sit this one out.

I'd like to know if there is anyone who can put new steel inserts into them.

I hope you get them. :TU: Then we'll know they have been put to good use and not re-sold.

    Aluminum Drums

I have posted about this earlier, but be very careful using GM aluminum brake drums. They tend to crack very easily. If they break, you will have no brakes. I found the one's on my racecar cracked, so I removed them and put steel one's back on. I was tipped off to this problem by an NHRA tech inspector after he helped pull a Super Stocker out of the sand trap because he had no brakes. One rear drum had come apart. Just beware. Have fun.

    Re: Aluminum Drums

Wasn't that just a problem on the later model cars? :Do No:
The downsized A bodies? or were they called G bodies then? whatever.
I had never heard of it being a problem with the full sized cars of the late 50's through the 60's.
They probably won't go for $800.00 like I presumed earlier. I got just alittle excited there when I saw them.

I think they'll fit both front and rear. My '70 Lesabre has the same size for both front and rear from what I see.

You may be able to use them in the rear, I don't know. But remember that the fronts have the hub and wheel studs rivetted to the drum, and the hub carries the bearings. The rears just have holes for the studs to come through from the axle.

what about width? on a-bodies, fronts are 9.5x2.5, while rears are the same diameter but only 2" wide.

    Wildcat2:
    yes,I know.
The ones in question have not had the hubs mounted yet.

    brblx:
    Good point.
I'll have to crawl under and measure them.
