I think I could see that 70' Chevelle shacking, cause it is sharing its room with the big dog.

You're going to have to find some Buick signs for the front of the garage or that GS is going to get a little jealous. I liked the Can-am posters on the wall of the shop as well. The white one looks like one of Jim Hall's Chaparrals. My dad took me to see them race in Brainard MN on my 16th birthday many years ago. I think that SS is going to want to find a quieter place to live once that blown BBB gets fired up next to it! Later, Randy

Sharp eye,yes Jim Hall Chaparrals.Laguna Seca had a tribute to him and his cars a few years back and Jim brought them all and these were no static displays either...all ran laps around the track...amazing.

Here are a few more pictures as promised:

Just out of curiousity, why is the paint so chipped up?

I see it was restored not that long ago. It seems the paint would of faired better since its been a static display piece. Unless the paint was purposely "distressed" to make it look original. If that was the case, then it worked.

The detail on the body is amazing.

I dont recall hearing the history on the car as far as when it stopped racing and where its been between then and now.

Are there any numbers or markings on the tires that could tell the date of when they were made?

Yes there are,on the fronts at least.I remember seeing them last time I was out there before I shot these, the date code on the fronts is from 1968.
I haven't been able to find anything on the outside of the slicks so far, haven't looked closely on the insides yet.

The paint job is somewhat perplexing to me as well...owner said he was trying to re-create a "barn find" look but I am trying to wrap my head around why someone would take all the time to re-create the beautiful gold leaf lettering yet purposely mask off all the imperfections. It was right there in the paint booth...why not go that extra little bit to make it perfect like it was originally...then do the lettering.:Do No:

Anyhow's,I'll have to completely re-do the body at some point and will look into several options on how to re-do the gold leaf lettering.

I'm learning more about this car everyday so I can't detail the exact timeline but my best guess after talking to several people close to the car is that it was only raced until around 1973-74 then was stored in a warehouse in NJ for almost 20-25 years.
It obviously had some extra tubes welded to the cage so that tells me it was raced in a more modern class that required those modifications to be legal.

What ever happened to Brooklyn Speed & Machine? Are they still around?

No,that was my dad's shop, when we moved to CA in 1970,he worked for Steitz Buick in Salinas for several years then opened up another speed shop in the late 70's in Sand City called Peninsula Speed & Machine, same logo as he designed for BS&M.

Interesting. I heard a rumor that it had been stored in the corner of a shop in Brooklyn.

Give me the addy of where Brooklyn Speed & Machine used to be and next time Im in the area, I'll snap a pic of what the stucture looks like present day.

If that was his intention with the paint, then he really knocked it out of the park. It does have a nice patina to it.
