Bore size

    What is the bore size of a +60 455?

    4.3125 + .060 = 4.3725 Sonic check is mandatory with any over bore, but .060 is a lot.

    Overboring to whatever size that will not allow you to find and run a set of rings that are not a drop in gap wise , or only need to be filed no more then .003" is a full on waste of time !!!
    You end end up with nice round Bores if the work is done right and then oval rings that never seal up anywhere like they should!
    The end result is that you make less power and use a ton more oil then if you had good stock size or common over size Bores with ring gaps of only .004" when the motors up to full temp.

    My machine shop wants to hone out the cylinders from .038 to .040 to clean up the walls and get rid of most of the deeper scratches. I need new pistons anyway. Does this sound reasonable? I know there are scratches in the walls that won't fully by gone with this little of a bore but they said it should be just fine.
    Should I still have them sonic check the block too?

    Depends on the build. 500+ HP, I would.

    Make sure what rings you can get b4 picking any bore..........if only going .002 more, A coating like line to line may all current pistons to be used with s good file fit rings
