Body in primer. Installing noise barrier. Top coat first?

I note the the factory installed the roof insulation onto bare metal. Not sure about the floor pan. The body is coated with 1K epoxy based etch primer (marine grade) sprayed after media blasting.

Would it be overkill to top coat before installing butyl/aluminum noise barrier (dynamat style), or is it recommended?

Thanks for any and all input.

If it's epoxy, then I would say yes it's overkill. I'm sure someone else will have the opposite opinion though. Epoxy primer is not porous.

Thanks Adam. It is 1K epoxy based etch. I am not sure if that means it is not porous like an epoxy urethane?

What kind of topcoat are you wanting to put on it?

1K primer is non-porous. Put the deadener on it.

Best to ask the manufacturer of the paint.
Epoxy is usually 2-part paint (2k), but I do see 1k epoxies out there.

But , yes, epoxies are usually very durable and relatively impervious to moisture.
