Body Bushings

    Hello, I'm almost finished on maintenance for my 70' Skylark 350. I'm in the market to find body bushings along with radiator support bushings. Can anyone tell me if this kit below includes both: body bushings and radiator support bushings?

    You don't want those kits , pure junk

    SS396.com has the MUCH better kits with the factory style bolts and the correct vulcanized bottom pieces, order for a convertible and I believe you will get the extra mount that you would otherwise be missing

    I used the SS396 product on my 67. Good quality, no problems.

    I see the kit, but it seems to be different than that shown in the assembly manual. I get the feeling folks just do the best with what comes in the kit.

    When you say "junk", I am looking for an economical solution for a driver grade restoration. The difference is $65 ($110 vs $175), which is significant to my budget. The Fusick Oldsmobile kit is also $175. What would be the difference for a driver quality restoration?

    Since I have a convertible, I need 14 for the body and 2 for the core support. Position 1,2,6, 7 and core support show part number 301 (total of 10). Position 3 is #298 (total of 2), and position 4,5 is #297 (total of 4). These kits do not show that they have the correct number of different bushings as shown in the assembly manual. Like I said, I saw someone say the differences were in diameter, not height, so I guess you could get by with a bit of a mismatch.

    Why cant this be straight forward!

    I purchased the body bushings, several years ago, from Fusik Olds. Quality product. u may find the bushing bolts to be a tad long.

    also be sure to order the convertible kit. U get the 2 extra bushings. Order the very front bushings from "Cars".

    If so, I don't see where it is specifically for a convertible. However it appears to have enough with 2 to spare ( possibly for the wagon version)

    Forget all those crappy kits and get the separate bushing from CARS ,identical to originals. BM644 Mount BM644-A cushion.

    You don't want that kit, the washers aren't vulcanized into the rubber

    for positions 4&5 on convertible you are re using your original pucks. So you need 12 total mounts and cushions. BM644 and BM644-A from CARS, Buy Separately , Not a kit.

    Don't skimp on the body bushings. $65 bucks may be a lot to you now, but, will seem like a lot more money when you are lifting up the body and replacing with the better ones and throwing the junk in the garbage can. As suggested above, you want the steel washer of the insulator to be attached to the insulator.

    Inline tube also sells the correct type. The set for a Pontiac convertible should be the right kit

    Getting closer. Inline seems closest so far.

    Between the cowl and the back of the rear wheel well, there are 3 mounts. The first (from front to back) needs an insulator and a bolt. The next two do not require that, they just sit in place.

    Referring to page 8 of their Oldsmobile catalog, which of the above mentioned mounts (the first, or the next two) is all rubber (12475) and which has a metal insert(12476)? In other words, I need to buy 2 more of either one.

    Also, I currently cannot see mine in the car now, and the reprint of the assembly manual I have is poor. Of all the bolts used (6 per side) which do I need to buy nuts for, and which are welded to the frame? Why dont I see nuts in any of the kits? Are the bushing inserts threaded?

    Bolts meet cage nuts built into the body. Nuts used on 4 cowl and two core support mount positions.

    Got it, Matt. Thanks.

    After all is said and done, I think am going with CARS BM644-2 and BM644a-2 for the core support, and positions 1,2,3,6 and 7. For positions 4 and 5 I am still not sure what I am going with. Possibly Inline's Oldsmobile #12475, but cant tell for sure if it has the protruding center to fit in the frame. I believe I have a good source for bolts (AMK).

    Thoughts?

    ToddsGS - a member of this board stocks and sells the hardware. He only caters to Buick so you won't have to worry if his stuff fits your car. I bought body bolts and a bunch of other stuff from him and will be purchasing more hardware from Todd this week. He ships quickly and is great to work with.

    if you don't have your originals, I think you can use regal bushings and cut them down a tad. info is on one of the numerous body bushing threads, They should make Dave's thread I linked a sticky.
