I know Jim Osborne reproductions has the tag, but who can put the VIN and assembly date information on the tag?

    Thanks!

Marco, It can be done with a typewriter, carefully. It needs to be close to the original typeface as well. It may be best to by a couple of decals to practice on first. I can tell you that an inkjet printer will not do it, the ink will not adhere, stays on the surface and will smear badly. I'm not sure about a laser printer.

    Thanks Scott.

Do you (or anyone else) know someone in our community (or any GM community) who can provide this service?

I don't have a typewriter, but I do know several people who would be interested in a tag.

    Thanks again!

That was a good question Marco. One that Ive been meaning to ask for a while. I dont think Ive owned a typewriter in 20 years! If you find someone to do them correctly, Im interested in getting a couple done for my cars. I would try asking Mike Garrison. He might have a line on getting them done.

We still have a typewriter in the office, and I think a couple of different typeface balls. I'll check it out Monday and see if the typeface looks anything like correct

There is a tag on sale on ebay one for $7 the other fo $49 They are from the same place The more expensive on is printed with your info. (Says it cannot be typed on) Is this worth it, or what. They keep reposting so. 12 Hours left on this one. Any comments? :TU: :beer

I saw that auction myself. From the picture, the VIN looks too dark. I believe its supposed to look like it was typed. Kind of a lighter black almost gray. Maybe someone can post an original sticker for comparison.

    3shields Let's go, MOUNTAINEERS!!!

I wouldn't spend that for it....

I bought mine directly from Jim Osborn, and typed it on myself. Some local libraries still have typwriters. Mine matches my original almost perfectly.

Here you go, Jason. I photoshopped out the last six digits of my VIN.

Also, someone was selling repros on EBAY a while back with a typo somewhere in the print, FYI.

What exactly needs to be typed on the certification label and where on it?

    Carl-

The VIN as shown above, and the build date in the upper right corner as shown below. Note my cowl tag is 01D, but I have Feb on the door tag.

    Ken,

Can you also show me the location of the Vin # on there? Never mind - I missed the first pic of the Vin #.

I tried the typewriter at work. It is in the ballpark, but the letters have a serif (like Times New Roman as opposed to Arial) and the stokes that make up the characters have a slight flair to them, rather than straight lines.
I believe that there are some other wheels around here for the typewriter, but I haven't checked that out yet.

    update

I checked the wheel in the typewriter and the font is Prestige Elite.

I found the other wheels, and this is the closest.

It is actually pretty close. It does have "open" 4s, like the sticker, which none of the fonts in MS Word have.

I'll try to scan a sample tonight and post it.
