I just want to add that the price of the power adder ( supercharger, turbo, etc) is the least of your worries. It costs about 4 times the cost of the power added to settup a car to handle the power you will make.

To give you an estimate of the total costs here is my mild street car build:

$4,000 to re-enforce the chassis and body with a roll cage and other things needed to handle the power.

$4,000 for an engine to handle the boost

$2,500 for a trans to handle the power

$2,400 for a rear end to handle the power

So the $2500 cost of adding twin turbos to the car was very little compared to the rest of the build.

So what is holding the crankshaft in???

Sean Buick 76 has a valid point on additional costs that you might not anticipate up front. It you have a street/cruise car (like mine) you won't have to shell out as much as you would for a race car. Yes, I had to get a performance 200 4R with billet parts, higher shift point and higher stall converter (I burned up and broke a stock 200-4R right away). You won't need significant chassis work and a roll cage unless you plan to race, but you should perhaps plan on $12k minimum for the boost project, even for a street car. There are lots of small $200-$300 items that seem to pop up as necessities ... oil & trans cooler, stainless fluid lines and AN fittings (expensive), a bigger fuel line, gauges for oil & trans temperature and pressure, electric radiator cooling fan, etc. They eat away at your wallet. You initially think that a $4400 blower kit will put you in business, but it will be 2-3 times that for a street car, and perhaps 3-4 times that for a race car. D. Harrington Troy, MI

Thanks, that clearifies my point exactly...

I would just hate to see this guy get in over his head on a project that gets more expensive than expected.

I know I almost gave up about $15,000 into my turbo car...

I know its not going to be cheap I've accepted this I've been shooting for like 7 years to finish with my money/time situation.

You can twin turbo it for 4-7K... Depending on where you draw the line that is..

Im pretty set on superchargering. Though i know it will be more expensive Im willing to do that set up.

Then keep n touch with John Everett (Jesupercat) and he can help you get an intake manifold.

supercharging is a lot of work, if you are only doing it to look cool, run very low boost very low timing and I would run e-85 fuel. but plan on some headaches..

    Im okay with that haha,
Ive liked the supercharger blowers since i was real little and as soon as my grandfather gave me the car i knew i was gonna do it

But i plan on owning a 87 GN so that will be my turbo car.

okay new question to throw on here,

Should i do all this work on the 350 i have or should i buy a buick 455 and build that??:idea2:

The 350 has a stronger block, I would do it on a stock 350 for sure. No need to rebuild the engine or anything to add the blower. Then later if you have a issue with the engine and it needs a rebuild you can add some better parts then. The Buick 350 has proven reliable under boost or nitrous even when stock.

No i see exactly what you are saying i was seeing your point

but i completely agree with build your motor and the car first. The surcharger was gonna be the last thing i bought.

i'd like to give you some advice about your thread. don't listen to anybody, including me, about what THEY think you should do with your car. it's your pocketbook and dream. make up your mind and then ask the people you want to get advice about what YOU want to do and then go have fun. :Smarty:
