I blow my oil filter on engine start.
Filter was fairly new with less than 50 miles on it.
I have more than 100 psi on start up, and around 60-80 after 60 second.
Once the engine is hot the pressure is between 10-15 on idle.
I hadn't any problem in the past year with the same KN filter.
Could be the pressure relief valve stuck closed on start up or a faulty filter ?
What shoul I check first on the pressure valve ?
I have the adjustable regulator from TA.

    Thank You

First off something is not right with the motor if you even had only 80 psi of oil pressure dead cold and then just 15 psi hot, no less with starting off with 100 psi cold!

What weight oil are you running?

Stuck pressure relief valve! Fairly common.....

Remove it and remove and burrs and polish it. Check bore.
I use my pinky to remove it...just the right size...jam it in and pull out. Sometimes they stick badly and other methods need to be used.

Had one of those K&N filters suck closed on the Dyno during a Jan/ feb. tuning session. Like crumpled beer can inside the housing.

Maybe The pressure relief opening on your pump is blocked off because of the wrong casket, seen it happen before, actually blew the filter apart on a 462 I built and sprayed oil everywhere!

    Yes. Potentially several things.

    Agreed.

Wild Guess: TOO DAMN THICK, trying to crutch a low-oil pressure-at-idle problem.

Have you tried turning the regulator out. You don't need 100 psi at start up. Do you have a choke that fast idles the engine? If so, what RPM does the engine turn at when cold started?

No choke, so I have to rev it.

I don't have a choke either. I just feather the gas enough to keep it running when it is cold. Have you tried turning the regulator out?

Also check what spring you have in the regulator.

    I think I found why !
I did use a valve relief from an HP pump, with is not slotted !

What was the end result? Did it correct your oil pressure and what was it after?

A start up, with same setting on the adjustable regulator pressure is 70PSI @1000rpm - temp is around 60° F
Did back up the regulator now I have 35PSI @1200rpm. Engine temp is now 185° F static
I take my pressure from a sandwich plate between filter and housing.
